# 1 Is tetryon useless now?
04-20-2013, 09:55 PM
I've been away from the game for a while up until about two weeks ago and started getting into pvp again and realized I wasn't doing the damage like I used to. I used to be able to take enemy shields down rather quick, I used to be something fierce in PvP, but now it seems like I could pound on a ship's shields through an entire match and not make a scratch. So I though "Okay, it's probably because there's fleet equipment and my DHCs are outdated" so I grinded for the advanced fleet weapon, and this is what my weapon layout looks like:

Fore: 2 [dmg]x3[acc], 1 [dmg]x3[cth]m 1 [dmg]x2[acc]x2
Aft: [dmg]x3[acc], [dmg]x2[acc]x2, [dmg]x3[cth]

All tetryon and I'm still not hitting as hard as I used to. Is it because I mixed it up? Should I have went for all [dmg]x3[acc] weapons? Or is Tetryon weapons simply just dated and there's new shields that provides a stronger resist against tetryon??

Fleet elite shields help against that yes, but I'm not sure if one could claim tetryon is useless.

Would it be better if I went with [dmg]x3[acc]? I don't seem to be missing very often, just not getting the punch like I used to, unless something was nerfed or buffed since I used to play.

You would be better off with all [acc] x2 but overall capability to take damage has greatly increased with the past few seasons in general. And massively I might add.

Fleet shields, passives, more subsystem power in general, etc etc have all led to this. Basically against a competent opponent unless someone makes a gap (holds/buff stripping/etc) you won't be able to kill them by yourself even in a tac escort.
STO has a diverse group of players with a wide range of expectations and playstyles. To that end the STO team should endeavor to create a variety of content with a diverse set of difficulty levels and challenges. Cake for everyone!

I wouldnt be too concerned about the Weapon 'proc' these days.

Granted, procs can be nice when they go off, but anyhow its still just a chance factor in the game. I'd rather go for solid builds and not look too much at chance based factors.

The thing you should really ask yourself is whether you are going to be shooting your Tetryons mostly against ResA fleet shields, if thats the case then yeah you pretty much answered your own question.

Ive been using Polarons for a long time because i found they were pretty at the time, until they screwed up the visuals in Season 4 to cartoon style RP, the proc was pretty bad at the time, couldnt be buffed by Flow caps and there was no fixed minus decrease duration for a few seconds like they have now. Always did great damage with them never the less.

These days I have multiple sets for fleet shield abusers, see it as a bit of RPing in PvP, pretending to be borg and adapt your weapons

The only way to counter the rediculous amount of shield resistance these days.

Well, with the advent of refracting tetryon beams, we should see a resurgence.

Tetryon weapons are probably the worst proc out there right now. The only way to make it work is with the tetryon glider 2 piece set.

I ran with tetryons for a while a year ago and ever since I moved to disruptor/polarized disruptors I've seen a huge difference.

Tetryon is good if the enemy has really deep shielding. Everything else, just use the energy weapon damage to strip the shield facing you.

I find Tetryon to be great for PvE. I consistently get 1st place in SB24 with my Fleet Defiant. In PvP... not so much. I'm working on obtaining a fleet AP set for PvP.

Phased tetryon with omega set, tachyon beam, energy siphon and maxed out flow capacitors?

Oh nvm, people hate tachyon beam.
