More melee weapons in general really need to be added. The Klingons and Hirogen NPCs both have melee weapons that players can't use.

Also, the Path to 2409 specifically mentions that Romulans under Sela's Empire are encouraged to carry honor blades.

Edit: What about Nero's weapon (that he took from the Praetor?): http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Teral%27n

I wouldn't mind at all if it was a replica of the Sword of the Raptor Star.

Folks don't mind that the Shard Sword of Kahless is a Bat'leth with unique looks and such, so I don't think that folks would mind a new shiny Romulan-based sword.

* In STO's canon, ancient Romulans appear to have had some sort of swordcraft, but it seems to have been abandoned over the centuries.

2) Any new melee weapon is likely to require extensive animation work, which we don't have the man-hours to design/create/implement. Unless they could somehow make use of the existing Lirpa, Bat'leth or Sword animations. But that would kinda defeat the purpose of them feeling 'unique' if they're just a simple weapon geometry swap.

It's not completely off the table, but it's also not likely to come to pass.
Given how the sword of the raptor star is found in the romulan story missions, giving the players (and players only) a leveling copy of it as a reward wouldn't be so far fetched. Like the KDF gets a copy of the first bath'let in the fek'lhri arc.

Those polarms used by Nero's crew (who are from the prime timeline) could easily use the Lirpa animations.

And if you created art for the Vrelnac sword, you could use the existing sword animations.

EDIT: the polearms are called Teral'n

This right hear. Maybe some sort of adaptation of a Roman sword with Romulan script and motifs.

I do believe actually Remans were known to use swords, short and long to fight Jem'Hadar.
KDF Future with Cryptic. Fact.

What Cryptic should consider before releasing anything.

Edit: Yeah the Teral'n is canon I do not know how someone could say it is not even since it was a polearm from the 2009 movie they had them from the prime universe which the game is suppossed to be in. So they didn't come thru then make them afterwards.

Sometimes I wonder how much research is done when it comes to canon info lol.

Really? Do you even watch Star Trek? So I suppose Nero's staff weapon from the movie, which you can find in about 2 seconds by googling Nero is not a cannon weapon? According to Memory Alpha, the weapon is called a Teral'n and was a historical weapon carried by Romulan Praetors. It would not be hard to make a new skin with the Lirpa animations. Cryptic HAS different weapon animations at their disposal, like the Jem'hadar blades the NPC's use.

In case you want to see the skin. Don't want to be rude to a dev, but don't tell us there are no cannon weapons when there are.
