I'm not graphics dude myself. But I do not think it is hard to do, and it would improve the visuals of large ships greatly. I do not know about others, but the reason I avoid dual beam banks, is because they shoot from some horrible hard points.
On the Regent (and the Odyssey, if I remember correctly), the emitters for the dual beam banks are very close together on the front of the saucer... the empty space between the two beams when fired is only about one beam-width. When using Overload, the beams even overlap.
This would be amazing. The Venture class and the Venture X both suffer the same issue. I know, same basic model. The V-X though fires from the edges of the saucer too though, and that has canon ports above the bridge, like the G-X, and the G-X fires them from there just fine.
Weapon hard points are ridiculous on most ships. They should be customizable imo.
The Somraw, K'tinga, D'Kyr, D7, Kumari, Xindi carrier, Xindi escort, and the T'Varo are all older than the Constitution Refit and yet they are tier 5. The Constellation is made up primarily of Connie refit parts and it is tier 5, there is no logical reason whatsoever for the no tier 5/6 connie rule.
not only the duals issue, but beam boats tend to fan out multiple beams from the same spot at once and it's very messy looking like at starbase 24 when there's beams literally going everywhere.. a quick fix would be to only change the beams contact points on the enemy ship to only change after every four pulse shot. so it would just look like another charge is being sent through the beam rather than multiple beams touching the enemy ship simultaneously.
tabbing quickly between targets is almost like fire at will too I noticed..
