The description of a Particle Generator buff, for example on the Nukara universal console, says that it increases exotic damage.
Yet the power description of, for example, Gravity Well II says the damage is increased by the Particle Generator skill but also says it does kinetic damage, not exotic.
What about Plasma DoT proc from energy weapons, torpedoes and mines? The damage of them doesn't seem to be enhanced at all by plasma consoles or Particle Generators. While we're here: do they stack? From the same source? Different sources? No stacking at all?
"Exotic Damage" is really not a type of energy (like Kinetic, Plasma or Antiproton are), but more a category of ability types.
The best way to describe it is "Any damage dealt by a non-weapon source."
This includes abilities such as Gravity Well and Tractor Beam (which are both Kinetic energy type), but also Eject Warp Plasma and Plasma Shockwave (which are both Plasma energy type).
That still makes it confusing as those abilities are not marked as Exotic.
When there are items which increase Exotic damage, then abilities must be marked as exotic, either as a addition like "exotic kinetic" or as its own damage type.
So, does that mean a Plasma dot by a weapon does not count as exotic since a weapon was triggered, but the dot from eject warp plasma does??
basically, yes; plasma DoTs don't count as exotic damage since they rely on weapons fire to be applied, but EWP does, since it comes from a power (and its damage is boosted by particle generators)
this begs a question, however...what about the plasma fire procs from romulan embassy consoles? those come on the consoles, yet they're applied to weapons; does that make them exotic or non-exotic? personally, i'm thinking non-exotic
