# 1 Point defense system questions

I've been considering buy the heavy escort retrofit for the point defense system but since I manly fly a cruiser I want to make sure I'm not going to be wasting 800 c-points on something I can't use, since the wiki says it only works on escorts and the c-store says it can be equipped to any fed ship so which is correct? Thanks

It used to be escort only, but since they removed the block any T4 ship or below special console will slot into any other ship class, except for the Quad cannons as they are a weapon.

Cool thanks! I'll probably get one to help with plasma torps soon. There a PITA on a huge ship like the odyssey. Or even on smaller ships like the galor.

This is a 10 second long ability with a lengthy cooldown. I was personally disappointed with the up-time and ditched it in favor of other consoles. I'd say run FAW and you might be happier with the results, but to each his own.

FAW is a good ability, however I find that if you time it right the point defence system, added with Torp Spread 3, cannon rapid fire 3 and Beam overload 3 can be a deadly combination especially if you add an attack pattern as well.

But as you say each to there own, the console itself does enough damage against smaller craft like hideki class or jem'hadar attach ships that the cruiser can then finish them off with FAW.

So many combinations.

the Point defense cannon is pretty good on Infected. the damage boost against smaller craft makes it rip through those probes while you blast the transformers and generators.

IIRC, it works on Shuttles and that is totally OP in the two shuttle missions that exist.

You do recall correctly Archancellor. The PDS does work quite lovely on shuttles in either of those two missions. It's particularly delightful to use after the Resonance Pulse gets the Swarmers agitated. Get three groups buzzing about your shuttle, activate your PDS, task over. Just. Like. That.

It also works great in Operation Gamma in quickly neutralizing those pesky worker bees and fighters.

There is nothing "over powered" about a weapon system that works as intended doing its job and saving your bacon from the roaring fire. Can the nerf chatter and allow a PDT on every capital ship I say. The 3 min cool down more than makes up for any other issues.

Bacon is good.
