Curious, as I plan on buying a KDF ship soon, I am uncertain which one is the best to buy for battle...

I would appreciate any suggestions .. if you would say a ship and say why, that would be great, thanks and Qapla!

I don't mind suggestions for either pvp or pve or both!

I have an engineer officer and a tactical officer and a science officer as well , in the KDF.

So really, any ship any idea, is great.

IF you want something to suit all 3 , i`d go for a b'rel bird of prey retrofit. (+fleet variant , works fine without also).
Why? Very versatile.
A torpedo boat. transphasic mines and torpedos. Enchanced battle cloak. Works fine . Can debuff while in enchanced battle cloak. In pvp would be nice. Subnucleonic beam , than firing torpedos. Viral matrix, and debuffs.
As tactical on same ship , the torpedos and mine damage would be boosted by the tactical buffs. Also , as a torpedo boat, you dont have to worry about wep power. reroute it to aux to make debuffs stronger. with the EBC you dont have to worry about the shields power either.
This ship, works also on an engineer.

This , if you plan to buy 1 ship for all 3 characters

My answer may seem a bit "find out for yourself" but I promise you it is not...

It really does depend on HOW you want to play and working from there.

If you want to play as a controlling general you could go for a sci in a voquv(which is free as you level). If you like it you could then buy a premium version like a fleet voquv, outfit it with the best hangars and laugh all the way to Qo'nos. Or you could be a sneaky git in a B'rel, but they take some serious skill to be effective in PvP (I've been killed by them, killed in them, killed with them and killed them in equal measures). Not many options for sci ships on the KDF without buying one and if you don't like it you're out of luck.

If you want to be a tank you could try the eng in a negh'var (or vor'cha, which I prefer for more tac options and better turning). You can then go for the premium version of the one you like to get more of what you like.

As a tac I love the Raptor (and the Mirror Qin from the exchange for dirt cheap and a slightly different layout)... like an escort only better

There really is no "best ship" that works for every player in every circumstance... all the advice you will get can only go so far. Your own playstyle really is key, as is how you are specced and what BOFFs you have.

I suggest getting registered for Tribble test server and testing ships there before you commit to buy on Holodeck server.

Well thank you both for your replies! I'm going to reply to both right now after the quoted replies here:

I have actually been looking at the Brel retrofit lately, that and that other ship where it can use like a leech thingy to weapons, so you drain power from an enemy when you fight them.

What you have said here though, has got me leaning more towards the Brel though now.

Very interesting and indeed helpful information/ thoughts. I think once again, as I mentioned above, the Brel retrofit and that other ship, have got my curiosity.

As for registering for Tribble test server... I never thought of that.... My one reason for not doing so , so far, has been that any time I would spend there, might be a waste since it's not on the actual game..game... if you know what I mean.... LOL.

Yet , maybe I will try that out.. Thank you both for your thoughts and ideas.

I think I'll go for the Brel bird of prey retrofit for now and perhaps one of the big ships too.

If you don't mind a slow turn rate but be an absolute tank the Bortasqu is a nice ship. I don't use it personally but some swear by it.

Also Flight Deck Carriers are a lot of fun. I run the Fleet Corsair on my Engineer and it's a good ship. She tanks very well using TSS2 and EPtS3, still working towards getting a decent shield for Elite STF's as she doesn't do so well in them currently. But that's more to do with equipment and possible character skills than the ship.

The Kar'Fi might look ugly but it's a great ship and if you're a LTS or a 600 Day subscriber you can use your veteran token and get the ship for free. Plus it's one of the older ships that has managed to keep up with the newer ones, many older ships have fallen behind in the last 12 months. Something Cryptic needs to look at, for customer satisfaction. A re-balance of the older ships would go a long way to generating some goodwill.

I find the Bird of Prey's a little lacking since the buff to NPC's and while the EptA is supposed to be fixed tonight (patch underway as I type this) a lot have been having difficulty in PvP as people using it can see cloaked ships from like 30-50km away and with their weak hull don't stand much of a chance as they are spike damage vessels and don't survive long in a dogfight. I own the B'rel and I don't use it anymore.

Also keep in mind the description on the C-store for the B'rel is misleading, it can't fire torps while cloaked, it decloaks fires then and after 3 secs re-cloaks. Mines however and many BOFF powers it can use while cloaked. Something they need to fix (in the description) but I doubt they ever will until someone sues them for misleading advertisement.
