More Warzones like Ker'rat, but with different themes, like... Federation Starbase, Klingon Fleetyard, etc.

This is like the monthly thread "what I want to see in pvp".

reality check: 2 maps in 3 years.

There are a lot of new things I'd like to see for PvP, but I think that the people who design the game realize that without fixing some of the problems PvP is currently plagued with, all new content would do is shine light on how bad some things are. Tournaments right now are the only basis for comparison across the PvP community, and even they are forced to create special rules to keep competitive play fair and fun. Until there is no more need for special rules, there's really no point in expanding PvP.

I think this might be the right time to have this kind of discussion, while the Devs are still thinking about their next major update rather than later when they've already scheduled out their resources.

Some things that would be a boost to PvP:

PvP modes where the environment contains hazards and anomalies that affect both sides.

A competitive "space race" (with obstacles!).

Beat the clock modes with interactive puzzles to solve as well as combat objectives. Fastest player to finish the last objective wins.

Customizable arenas, customizable win conditions, customizable optional objectives, and customizable handicaps.

A PvP Leaderboard, and skill-tiered matches (noobs vs noobs, elite vs elite). True Tournament play sponsored and organized by Cryptic/PWE with special rewards for the top competitors.

The ability to watch matches as a spectator. Both free cam and the ability to follow different participants. This, together with tournaments, would be an awesome feature. Bonus points if we can bet GPL with a Ferengi bookie

Massive fleet vs fleet PvP.

Gladiator-style where you can pit your BO's (or Redshirts) against the other guy's.

Demolition Derby Style Deathmatch!

A mode that did that would be really cool.

I love the GPL gambling idea with it, nice thought process.

Generally, I really enjoy CTF game modes in MMO PvP. But in the case of STO, given current mechanics, I'm not sure it would work very well, quite honestly.

Some new PVP formats I'd like to see:

1) Persistent territorial PVP, with exclusive merchants and gear for those who control specific areas of the map.

2) King of the Hill PVP - single players or teams can square of in a 5-round, single elimination tournament. The higher the win count, the better the drops

3) Starbase Seige - Similar to CNH, but destroying the enemy starbase is the primary objective. Starbases will have some player-controlled defense system like planetary beam arrays that can hit targets well past 20km, along with enhanced cloak detection.

Large scale warfront PvP with multiple objectives and story.

just as an example:

The Federation has intel that the Klingons are massive a fleet in the <insert system name here> and are using the weapons manufacturing base on the planet to rearm their ships for a full scale assault.

The Federation fleet engages the KDF fleet and tries to break through the defense line to beam down to the planet base and destroy the manufacturing base. If enough Federation ships break through and get to the planet then they can beam down to the base and the combat moves to a ground combat destroy or defend objective. If the Feds manage to overwhelm the KDF defenses then the base is destroyed and then combat resumes back to space as the Fed ships try to cross enemy lines again to rejoin with the main fleet. Enough KDF ships would have to be destroyed before the Feds could retreat and therefore win the PVP.

At any time if the KDF successfully defend then the Mission would be a failure. The same scenario could also be used with the KDF being the attackers. There are many possibly scenarios for this type of PVP content.

Glad to see that this might actually get to the devs

Back on topic though, I'd love to see environmental hazards in pvp maps, like for instance fighting near the corona of a star, where if you get too close then radiation damage will begin to impact your shields, and if your shields are down or very low then the radiation bleeds through and impacts the hull and crew. Or perhaps fighting near the accretion disk of a Black Hole, with the gravity actually pulling on the ships depending on how far away they are (and/or the accretion disk itself messing with your subsystems).

Leaderboards, I'm kinda.....meh, on given that it would be pretty distorted since kills are shared in game unless you're tracking killing blows as an invisible stat?

Races sound very fun and would be perfect for shuttle combat (perhaps go mario kart style with powerups and specials that can be used )

Also, the Cryptic sponsored tournament would be great if they could do it on an annual or semi-annual basis for significant rewards. Perhaps have the reward be a ship of the player(s) choosing for the winner(s) or something of that nature.

As for full-scale territory control, personally I consider it to be more of a pipe dream. The reason I think that is because to be fun and truly challenging, you'd need resources to fight over, strategic points to take and hold, and you'd need to be able to "win" the war. The whole concept is somewhat similar (at least in my mind) to EVE players asking to be able to walk around outside or their pods, or use planets. Sure they got both of those things, but one took 8 years to make happen, the other required a new game to be developed and linked into the EVE universe.

I just don't see a way for them to do territory control quickly in a way that's fun and sustainable and I'd rather see them focus on getting new maps/modes out in the short run since there hasn't been ANYTHING new pvp-wise in over two years, in fact we've lost more than we've gained in pvp since the game was launched.

Support a KDF equivalent to the Vesta Here

im sorry... i couldnt help but laugh.

are you fracking serious!? have you not seen the road pvp has been down?

we've been told time and time again things are comming, even multiple seasons in advance (anyone remember how season "9" will be pvp dedicated? yet they conviently stopped making seasons?)

no matter how far in advance we let cryptic know the pvp community is in need of ANYTHING they completely lie/ignore us.
