Given that there is nothing in the release notes about sustainably changing the nature of space combat I assume it is a bug. Spaceships now seem to do little to no damage to my ship.

It is no longer necessary to switch sides to have the strongest shield facing or even necessary to dirvert power to any shield quadrant. I'm taking on three to four +3s in my science ship and coming out of it without a scratch.

Could anyone from Crytic confirm that this is working as intended or has there been some mistake somewhere?

Can you post more detailed information?

What type of skills do your BO's have? What is your power setting. What type of shields are you using?

I fly an escort and I get tore up from +3s if I am not careful. Difficulty level in space combat is unchanged for me.

I'm not using any skills, that is part of the problem they are completely unnecessary now with combat this easy. I usually have all power to weapons, with standard 4k shields, nothing special and certainlynot regen ones.

I've only been killing Romulans since the patch though, maybe other races still hurt. What have you been fighting?

I've just been killing klinks. Didn't have a large amount of time to test today before work. I'm not a top notch escort pilot, but I know I am pretty decent.

I'm still using Mk II and III stuff as well so that could make things more difficult, but from what your saying is even that would make combat super easy?

It does seem that way. My damage doesn't seem to have changed but the amount of damage they are doing to me seems to be substainaly reduced. I'll see if I can make a quick youtube video of it to illustrate later.

I was having a look at the combat log when fighting 5 level 20 birds of prey. They were all hitting my shields for around 55-60 damage with disruptors with an averge bleed through of about 3.

This can't be right - I find it strange that there is no mention of such a big change in the patch notes yet there is for small things like "Added Bar Patron costumes."

Any chance of getting this cleared up?

I noticed this today as well. Started a new toon, and at level 3 I was doing the first set of Patrol missions for the Vulcan sector and came across the missions where you have to take on +1 cruisers. My shields seem to hold well, only dipping below 60% on the attacks with 3 torpedos. Seems like damage to me was reduced. Haven't tested further, but will this weekend.
