I posted this in an overheating thread; not sure if this has been mentioned here, but:

People running nVidia cards should NOT use the 196.75 drivers! Known issues with fan control causing high temps - this is not specific to STO.

If you're running that version, drop back to 196.21 ASAP.

Update: nVidia just released new drivers: version 197.13 resolves the fan speed issue.

I've actually had to drop back to old nVidia drivers a while back... 182.X IIRC. Cause Fallout 3 won't run on anything newer.

I went back to the 195.62 Driver from the 196.21 and I'm getting BETTER results.

It's running cooler and I'm getting better FPS.

EDIT:
Results here:

My card burned up today while playing...

It always ran hot and shut down often (due to heat) during gameplay..

This computer played WoW, CoH, LoTR, EVE and Conan - all at fairly high settings.

Yet the card died playing STO at lowest settings...

Serisously guys, i only got to the main menu of the game and my blue screen came up and the display never sorted itself. After 3 days ish, i have narrowed it down to a hardware failure. The display is very fuzzy, has lines scattered around on the screen. I really wanted to try this out, now I cant and never want to quite frankly. Seriously, they should warn people about this, they cant just let ppl find out for themselves by looking on the forums. Money down the drain, dissapoitment straight thru the roof! NEVER AGAIN!!

Maybe, but ever since the most recent updates STO has been giving me issues in the graphics department. I have 2 Nvidia cards linked together and in ground screens it will freeze consistantly. Really ****es me off
