# 1 Odyssey Build/General Help!
07-27-2013, 05:02 AM
Hey all!

Let me preface this with two things; firstly, I hit Vice Admiral yesterday afternoon, after a long time of casually playing the story here and there. Secondly, I am admittedly unfamiliar with a lot of the nuances of the space combat in this game, mostly because flying in circles and phasering things to death has worked so far. ;P

I've just purchased the Ops Odyssey, and I'm in love with it as a ship - I'm just wondering how I should fit it! I spent a bit on some Mark XI Tetryon arrays on the exchange, and they're working fine, but I'm wondering if there's an optimal build that I should be shooting for. I'm also relatively clueless as to what consoles/warp cores/deflectors/ etc. are available, and which would be the best for my playstyle and for synergistic reasons.

Speaking of my playstyle - I enjoy the ship for the way it handles, being slow but resilient and adaptable. I'm an Engineer myself, so from what I understand a tanking build is likely the best thing to aim for. I don't mind having to work on reputations for gear, just know that my fleet isn't Tier V so that stuff is out of the question.

Overall, I'd like a build for my ship as well as a bit of an explanation on why the pieces were chosen. I realize this is a LOT to ask, but you'll have my eternal gratitude and the satisfaction of having helped someone less fortunate. ;P

Thanks everyone!

The cheap method is to run 1 Quantum Torpedo front and back and use 6 Polaron Beams, than do the Story Missions to get the Polaron beams and the Jem'Hadar space set, which boosts Polaron damage which helps because you only have 2 tac console slots.

Some weapons are better than others but if your not a Fan of the colour green there's no point running Disruptors just for the minor benefit. Picking your favourite colour will work well enough for all things PVE.

It should work well enough, and it's not expensive.

Getting the Borg Space set or MACO space set (Even just the MACO shield) through the Omega Reputation would be a good goal. The Kinetic Cutting Beam and Assimilated Module are so good that they are practically Mandatory on every ship.

What type of Captain are you? Engineer? Tactical? Science?
What's the goal of your ship? Damage, Tanking, Science? Some Combination of two?

Auxillery Power to Battery Cruisers are quite good all rounders having great damage and tanking abilities. The Catch is you will need to get 3 Purple Technician DOFFs and they aren't going to be cheap. The benefit is you don't need 2 Purple Conn Officers who are also not cheap.

The easiest way is to farm the B'Tran Cluster colony mission to get the Purple Technican from there. I'm not sure how well 3 Blue or 2 Purple and a Blue would work.

Also you definitely want to keep Chevron Seperation, that console is very good for boosting your turn rate and rejoining when you need the Hull/Shields.

If I ask you a question it is not an insult but a genuine attempt to understand why.
When I insult you I won't be discreet about it, I will be precise and to the point stupid.

heres another angle to consider...

grind your way through all the borg, romulan, and nukara rep.

go with the borg shields/deflector/engines. power boost to subsystems is nice, and its a regenerative shield, which we can build upon in a sec, as well as boost your weapon output.

get the borg weapons set and the romulan weapons set. also get the nukara console. borg console, KCB, romulan beam, romulan console, and nukara console will give you decent set bonuses, added crit hit, added crit damage, and boosted beam array damage.

assuming you have a mid level fleet, get 6 advanced plasma beam arrays 2x acc 2x dmg

now, also assuming you have a mid level fleet, get the romulan embassy consoles with plasma damage boost and shield emitter. each console gives you 10% more damage as well as boosts shield regen, which is what borg shields specialize in.

get 1 or 2 of the sci consoles as the ship fits, get 2 mk xi plasma infusers, and then see if you have access to the dilithium armor consoles, mk 12 of course. get 1 of those, and fit the universal consoles in the rest of the engineer slots. also consider saving up for a plasmonic leech console to boost power levels.

warp core should depend on your setup. are you gonna pul power into shields or weapons as primary? whichever u pick, divert power from that main system to the other, or to auxiliary. this will either boost shields, or boost you aux abilities, Aux2Batt mainly. save up for elite warp core because of the nifty abilities you get.

This is all grindable stuff, just takes time to get it all together, and the abilities u get along the way are nice bonuses as well. I wouldnt waste resources on mk 11 rep stuff, or embassy, or dilithium, save it all for mk 12. you will be happier that you did in the long run.

The Borg set is arguably the best set for pure tanking, no matter who you're up against. The MACO set is effective against the Borg, with it's plasma resists. For Weapons, I like using the Romulan and Borg Weapon 3 piece sets along with Romulan Rep Mk XII Plasma Arrays.

How I arrange them:

Fore: 1 x Romulan Plasma Launcher (rep mod), 1 x Experimental Plasma Array, 2 x Romulan Mk XII Plasma Arrays

Aft: 1 x Borg Cutting Beam, 1 x Borg Plasma Torpedo Launcher, 2 x Romulan Mk XII Plasma Arrays.

For modules, the Point Defense System and the Lobi Temporal Universal Console are permanent fixtures. The Isometric Charge is nice for close groups of frigates that NPCs like to us. The Tachyokinetic Converter works well on Odysseys for turn rate enhancement.

Articwolf & Januhull if he's just hit VA (50) your builds are what he needs to work on getting. They are both good designs but mid level fleets and T5 Reps are going to take awhile.

Mine is what he can have in an hour or so.

^ what this person said right here..

Its nice to see that at least some people on these forums know what gear to use and what works. Good post, and OP, I recommend you take this advice.

Heh. Except thats a couple months worth of grind totaling how many thousands of marks and hundred-thousands in dilithium? Plus if you load that many universals on to one ship, just for a point or two of crit bonus, that won't leave much room for the basic tools like armor and field gens.

Especially when new to the game, start with cheaper stuff and things you can farm from the story missions. Figure out your playstyle, what you like and don't and what general combos work. THEN buy the expensive stuff to refine your build. Buying the expensive stuff first without knowing how to use it is just ego flushing money.

Personally I agree with what dknight said for an early build. Polaron weapons are good, you can get Mk12 cheap on the exchange, and the Jem'Hadar space set is arguably the best non Reputation/Fleet set in the game. Then from there, just getting your Omega reputation up to level 2 and adding the Assimilated Module and Kinetic Cutting Beam, two IMMENSELY useful tools for a beam boat, for only about a week's worth of grind.
