# 1 Rewarded for playing?

I took a break from STO for a while and had a idea.

What if the only way to get raw dilthium was a free 1K for every hour you played?

Pro:
  • No more mindless grinding. Just talk to friends or go enjoy the game because it was *gasp* fun to play on it's own.

Con:
  • Easily a loss in dilithium income for the more dedicated players.
  • The dilithium exchange prices would skyrocket.

Thoughts?

Problematic as some (many) people would just login and stay afk for 24hrs a day. Casual players who only login for an hour or two a day (or more likely less) would certainly suffer in comparison.

As a counter proposal, add dil rewards to a more broad range of content. Gaining some dil from running missions (maybe more if teamed and completing as a group) wouldnt seem to be unreasonable and would mean a steady trickle of dil for people who arent running the few dil grinding activities lots of us subject ourselves to.

Anyway, to echo the above - to be honest, no. Sorry.

No one for playing a game solely because it's just fun to play? You have to have a finite ladder to climb?

If you're playing a fun game just to play it then the Dilithium doesn't matter.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Part of the fun in a game is to get better at it. Your idea removes a very important dimension of achievement. I don't know what 'classics' you're referring to, but I assure you, games are not about getting rewarded for doing nothing.

many parts of this game is no fun tho

it could be if the devs made it more fun, but instead they added time gates and grinding multiple chars to get the same reward.

Having something to achieve is fun, but once you have everything there isn't anything left to do if that's all there was in the first place. There is no 'in place' content to do outside PvP and balance has been "coming soon" to that for so long it's almost the slogan.

"Coming soon to PVP near you, Balance!" -TM

For example, I annually dig out Master of Magic, Wizardy 8, Sacrifice, Starseige: Tribes, Tribes 2, or Black & White. The games are finite in a way, but they're so well done they are always worth the replay to me. The difference is very hard to explain.

Once the grind is done, there's nothing left to do, but even more grinding. There's nothing much that just makes people scream "Dear God that was fun! ... Lets do it again from the start!" over and over.
