# 1 Costumes are a complete mess
07-20-2013, 03:25 PM
As the title says. Costumes really need a minor overhaul, the matching of pieces is a complete mess!
You can go barefoot, but only if wearing Off Duty - Pants- Knee High
You can wear Romulan civilian shirt, but only as part of a uniform
Depending on pants the selection of belts, boots and other leg wear is completely arbitrary.
The same goes for shirts.

I do understand the desire to keep uniforms and off-duty wear separate, but I really think you need to rethink and reconfigure a LOT of the combinations allowed, ESPECIALLY when it comes to off-duty/formal wear. Maybe going as far as setting off-duty to "every combination allowed, user is responsible for avoiding clipping"

Anyone else have feedback on this, or other weird combinations of restrictions?

To be honest, the entire tailor is a disaster zone. It's like someone detonated a Tricobalt warhead and never bothered to clean up the mess.

As you said we have pieces that can only be used with certain pieces. Pieces in a costume set have different color palettes so coordinating matching colors becomes difficult if not impossible in some cases. Hell some of them like the Fed-Rom boots on my Liberated Borg don't even have a color palette. There's only one shade of brown. Then we have hairstyles not being available on certain species for some random unknown reason, male and female costume counterparts missing options (Romulan Tal-Shiar belt/chest strap for example), and of course no facial hair for Romulan males. Not to mention all the clipping and color bleeding...ugh.

It's just bad and needs a full revamp. Oh and give me back my undo/redo buttons Cryptic. Seriously.

It's time for STO to get a complete UI overhaul.

^ all this.

I've always managed to find a work-around until I started my Reman. I had issues with my Romulan, but for some reason, the Reman with the same crew is proving impossible to create a consistent uniform for the crew. And the "load outfit only" button is not working for me. I'd love to acquire a few more costume choices, but why shell out money for zen when I'll likely have a repeat of the current broken conditions.

# 4 Costume Woes

I never really played STO, even though on one of my account I bought lifetime... that said, I just started playing it this week.

I started as a Romulan (went KDF). All I can say is: I did not know what I was missing until I rolled a Starfleet toon.

Wow. I kind of suspected the little eye icons next to armors were supposed to work; I just figured they did not. At least for Romulan and KDF characters. Seems fine and working for Starfleet (even when body types and clothing are basically the same). I mean, sure, for a GORN, maybe it's hard to get it right, so they gave up. I can get that. But a Romulan is how much different from a Vulcan?

Then there's the whole "KDF Costume Bug" (I learned this as I ran into it HARD on my Romulan toon). Not only was this supposedly fixed (it was not), but it hits Romulans harder somehow. So basically all my frustration with costumes (which I ultimately just threw up my hands and said, I don't give a crap anymore) is really not a problem on the Starfleet side of the game.

As for the OP's "minor" overhaul. If all it was were mis-matched pieces and super-dumb color pallet limitations, I'd agree: MINOR overhaul.

As things stand now, I have to wonder if the original costume team has long ago left or gave up, and it's just limp along and throw crap up in the cash-shop that is generally not costume-specific.

With Cryptic's track record, I do not expect this to ever be resolved, it would be nice if it was removed (pruned down) to lessen the headache factor of both the end user and the support staff.

I have to agree that the whole thing is in quite a terrible state at the moment, way too many things are just not working as they should be. My Rom/fed outfit clips one the back any time i raise my arms, there's a lot of new rom hair with bald patches, Remans don't look like they do in the movie, and the biggest issue for me is none of the skin are fully body minus gorn, caitian, and Trill. As a lifer most of my characters are borg or use the borg skin since Vulcans can't be borg apparently, but it ends terribly at the neck so any and all open options look terrible.

When they did their Character creator 2.0, all they did was change the UI appearance, hardly a reason to call it 2.0. I agree that they need to go back and fix a lot of the issues with it and give the character creator a proper overhaul in terms of actually creating characters and how they look.

if they would just fix the bug that makes it default to some random duty outfit, if you try to edit an off duty one, i could work around the rest...
Cryptic.
Figure out and address the players path of least resistance to reward. this one thing is THE consistent factor undermining all your efforts. be that crafting, raids or starbase projects.

once you set a costume to a different category, it should stay fixed. The problem is with editing a particular costume for the first time since the revamp, the tailor doesn't remember what category an outfit was before the revamp, so you have to reset it, but once you've got it reset it should stay. And you'll find that all the color choices on the regular costume pieces should still be correct, you'll just have to fix the colors on all the attached pieces.

the most obvious thing that bothers me is the enabled Head/face options (on each side of the Character) when cutomizing body or uniform. I find this very annoying, and it just takes away space and is just distracting IMO.
If i want to edit face and head i got to the appropriate tab.

I agree with all other things you guys already mentioned.

A feature that would make everyone happy would simply be having section with 'Sub Palettes" Example (Standard Uniform, Off Duty and Romulan) This way you can keep it consistent if you want, or go all over the place with the colors and have fun.

In any case, I feel the ENTIRE PALETTE should be opened up to all types of costumes (Duty, Off Duty/Formal and Armors)

... and for the love of God, Cryptic, please get rid of those 2 face and hair template columns at the character tailor. They take away a lot of sight and I often mistakenly hit one of those buttons.

THANK YOU!!
