Computer:

Core2duo 2.4ghz dual core
4 gigs ram on Windows XP (~2.75GB ram)
8800GTS 320MB video ram NVIDIA

My game runs like crap on recommended settings. I have a 22 inch widescreen with 1680x1050 native resolution. Low settings run fine but it looks like crap. What should I do?

Also, when I try to change settings, a lot of the time it crashes and says out of video memory. I had similar problems with champions online, very poor performance.

Is it my computer or the game?

What settings should I lower that kill FPS? Ide really like a consistant 40+ FPS

bump

With my rig, is it worth upgrading my video card or is there something weighing me down?

The recommended system specifications are:

OS: Windows XP SP2 / Windows Vista / Windows 7 (32 or 64-bit)
CPU: Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon X2 5600+
Memory: 2GB RAM+
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 (768MB of video memory) / ATI Radeon HD 3850+
Sound: DirectX 9.0c Compatible Soundcard
DirectX: Version 9.0c or Higher
HDD: 10GB Free Disk Space
Network: Internet Broadband Connection Required
Disc: 6X DVD-ROM

So yes upgrade your video card at least.

Have you tried switching off dynamic lighting?or AA?
If not try switching these off, your system should be able to run the game at around medium.

Is it worth spending 200 or so $ on a new graphic card or wait 6-12 months and buy a new rig?

It seems shadows **** my computer in all games I play. Lightning also but not as much as high shadows.

Everytime I try to change settings the game crashes, hopefully that will be fixed after launch.

Try updating your drivers first if you haven't done.

Yeah, it seems to me something is wrong, you should be running pretty good at medium settings with that rig. Check your GPU temps and CPU performance while running STO

There is nothing wrong with purchasing a new video card now. You can always put it in a new build later .

But... there could be one issue, 8800GS cards were built as PCIe and AGP slotted cards

If it is an AGP slot card I would not recommend an upgrade. You have to pay to much of a premium for a decent AGP card these days and you are not going to get a much faster card than the one you presently have.
