After buying the [-th] consoles from the Romulan embassy, i noticed that for the most part, they just didn't work.... at all really, at least not for me. I'm not seeing the extra plasma dot damage, and i'm still generating enough threat that Cubes will fly across the map just to shoot me, so i have to ask what's up with this?
Initially i thought they, much like everything else, just didn't work as intended, but going through the tool tip it mentions "when active", but i can't find any where that says anything about "when active" happens. Is there any way to activate the console? is there any way to know when it's active? I have two on my tac and three on my sci, is that a total waste of FC?
As it stands, "when active" just seems like something they tossed in because it simply just didn't work reliably like it was supposed too. Please help me out on these?
Well, the 'when active' thing I would guess means when you are actually making an effort to get aggro. Also, cubes (I'm presuming you mean ones from KASE) being pulled from across the map is nothing new, they've done that for a long time, usually because they aren't shot at sometimes when summoned, and thus just go to whoever seems to have threat generation.
Now, that brings up the question, 'what are you flying, and what class captain are you?' That might explain a lot right there to be honest.
Are you specced into threat? I doubt that you are, but just worth asking.
My Fed/tac is flying fleet defiant without any points into threat and is set up to do plasma damage. I've got the two [Mk XII Shield Emitters] [-th] [pla] but all traits are ground, so i doubt i'm doing the highest dps for generating threat. On most occasions it seems like i'm having things suddenly break off or come after me even if i haven't attacked it when another team mate is. In the last few days, it seems like i've suddenly become the hot target in ISE. Things just seem to be drawn to me a lot more in the elite STF's in the last patch or two.
On my Rom/sci, i'd originally built him to shield tank (which was stupid on my part), but ran into some weird bug where my ships defensive values were constantly shifting (not power level or de/buff related). Basically my ship was being torn through like it was nothing, often through full shields. Another mistake is that he's set up for more of a regen to make use of the Romulan Elite Fleet Plasma weapons (which never came). While here i didn't have the threat generation issues of my tac, he still drew a good deal of aggro with the AOE's, so i decided to get two [MK XII particle generators] [-th] [shH] and one [MK XII gravaton generator] [-th] [shH], to help make up for the bug and bad planning.
Over all as it stands, i'm not really seeing much difference in the plasma output, and the threat generation seems to be adding way more than subtracting. With how the [BORG] turned out as well as a lot of other things not working as intended, i'm honestly thinking i wasted a lot of fleet marks for consoles that don't work as they say they do, and i can't really seem to find anywhere that some one has tested the numbers on it all yet.
For your Defiant, honestly...more than anything, it might just simply be that you are just generating more threat, even with the console running.
I don't run the dps calculators or min/max, so i'm not sure how i'm generating more than other DPSers out there, but it IS possible. Still though, it's a frustrating mechanic, and it would be nice to get a little clarification on how it works.
Any time i've asked, no one seems to be using them at all, but at the same time, yes i AM pugging, so it IS possible that i'm just doing that much damage but it's unlikely. That's why i was hoping to get some kind of official work on the matter, especially given that there are often troubles with smaller issues like this.
