# 1 No lockbox option
10-03-2013, 05:01 AM
How about, for those of us who don't want to waste RL money in a virtual f2p world, you give us the option, for free, for no lockbox loot? I can't tell you how tired I am of trying to loot something and these idiotic lockboxes are in my face. I don't want them. I don't want to waste my money, or 1.2 million credits for a key...so how about a way to turn them off?

the unfortunate reality is, those lockboxes are a large part of what keeps the game running.

from the obsessive compulsive who open every single one they get, to those of us who just plain get tempted to try opening one once in awhile on the off chance they get something nice

the point is, EVERYONE opens one, even if its only ever just one. and having them drop for everyone increases the chances you'll get tempted and do it.

its like the lottery. everybody knows the chances of winning, but ppl keep playing cuz the temptation is there.

by giving ppl the option to remove that temptation, Cryptic (and PWE) would lose revanue, no doubt about it.

so unfortunately, what ur asking for is just plain never gonna happen

The above sums it up fairly well. 99% of Cryptic's income comes from people buying Zen for either Keys or for Fleetbase projects. They're not going to cut their own financial throats by allowing people to not get Lockboxes.

So if you don't like the Lockboxes just delete them and get on with your life. It's certainly not any different then the other 50 drops we get and have no use for and end up recycled.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Or sell them on the exchange; you might not make many EC from them at any one time, but they'll probably always be someone willing to buy.

stacks of 20 lockboxes will get you a little EC if you hold on to them they go up in price (my green ferengi boxes/cardassian boxes grab some nice EC at times)

Like many of the people before said, Lockboxes are the result of F2P. When playing was subscription based, we didn't have to deal with the lockboxes.

So you have to ask yourself, "Was the game going free 2 play worth the cost of getting spammed by lockboxes?"

For myself, the answer is no.

Then you also need to realize this game was down to 20 Devs, a skeleton crew doing the transition, and would not be in business if it hadn't gone FTP.

Not sure about everyone, but yes, most do.
Captain Kirk is climbing a mountain. Why is he climbing a mountain? Is he learning to fly?
