# 1 New Carrier ship suggestion
08-24-2013, 11:05 AM
I'm planning on buying the Fleet Heavy Escort Carrier at my earliest chance, but I'm a bit disappointed that there are no Carrier ships that resemble a Cruiser, a tanking ship. I want to be able to keep my mother ship intact for as long as possible while my fighters fly in and engage the enemy, while at the same time providing support fire from a safe distance. The current carriers on the FED side, as far as I can tell, are centered around tactical builds (Heavy Escort Carrier, Vesta Carrier line) and Science builds (Atrox Carrier, Vesta Carrier line).

I'd like to suggest something along the lines of a Star Trek version of a Battlestar, a tank of a ship that can take tremendous amounts of damage (on the scale of normal cruisers like the Odyssey), field fighters or support ships based on the situation at hand, and be able to engage the enemy on its own if need be. Basically, a ship like the Odyssey heavy cruisers, except with carrier abilities.

However, I don't think it should just be a rework of an old ship, like the Armitage was (don't get me wrong, I love that ship to death). It should be a completely new ship that we haven't seen in STO yet, on the level of the Vesta and Atrox.

Here's a build that I think would work with a carrier like this, and still give it a good advantage in all areas with the Universal slots. A carrier should have some flexibility.
Weapons: 4 fore, 4 aft (standard for cruiser type ships)
Consoles: 4 Engineering, 2 Tactical, 3 Science
Bridge Officers: Commander Engineering, Lt. Commander Universal, Lt. Tactical, Lt. Science, Ensign Universal

I'd love to hear feedback on this, or hear of any ship that's coming in the future that may be somewhat like this. Thanks for reading.

Wow another ship suggestion thread

Cryptic already know what ships there going to implement into the game months and months before we find out

carriers are a nieche ship not many people like or can run them therefore not very profitable

If you want a proper carrier roll a Klingon

With season 8 coming up with a free carrier being included in some sort of special mission it could be years before we see another one if we ever see another one so don't hold your breath

This Carrier exists for the Klingons and was recently given away free, it was the Marauder Flight Deck Cruiser.

While the BOFFs are wrong, and their's less weapons you seem to be describing the Mirror Vo'quv. Yet another Klingon ship.

Do you get the impression that if you like the idea of Battlestar Galactica you should play a Klingon or a different game?

I'm just giving an idea for a new ship, I don't expect it to be coming out tomorrow, if anything like it ever does. I'm aware that there is a new carrier coming from the Season 8 missions, but who knows what that will be. And I'm already flying a carrier, in fact I'm using the free one we just got, on my Klingon. I just want the same experience on FED captains. The idea of the Battlestar was just something that I liked when watching the show, and I was only using it for reference. Obviously, we'll never get sci-fi crossover ships (which would be pretty cool, by the way), but I just liked the idea of using a carrier ship as a mobile fortress, sending out a stream of fighters against the enemy. The weapon, console, and bridge layout was something I thought up on the spot, as a good starting point.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. criticism or not, it helps me make a better suggestion.

This is something I don't understand if you've got the FDC experience on KDF why would you want the exact same Experience Fed side?

Each of my 4 toons are built to do different things. Fed Eng is for Cruisers and Energy so if I do fly an Escort on him it's not the same as if my Klingon flies an Escort.

I think that the others are right, getting a 4/4 weapons loadout is unlikely, at least on a true carrier. If you want a flight deck cruiser with one hangar, then you could get that weapon setup.

I wouldn't mind a fed engineering focused carrier with 3/3 weapons, two hangars, 4 eng, 3 sci, and 3 tac consoles (I suppose that would be on the fleet variant, so maybe 4/3/2 or 4/2/3 on the normal variant)

Eng commander
Sci lt. commander
Tac lt. commander
lt. universal

I think it would be neat to make it a smaller carrier, kind of like the thought process behind the defiant. So a crew of 1k or less (preferably far less like 500) instead of the 3-4k crews on other carriers.

Base hull of 35k and turn rate of maybe 8-9-10ish. (keep in mind, this is supposed to be a 'defiant' mentality ship, so it's remarkably small, stripped down for war functionality)

Perhaps the carrier could give up the typical bonus shield modifier but instead have an innate hull damage or crew damage resistance because it is "armored" or whatever. (just a possible point of uniqueness) And maybe it could come with worker bees as a special hangar item which repair hull. That could make the carrier relatively small and maneuverable for keeping up with ships like the defiant to provide support and repairs, but can also be outfitted with fighters or runabouts for combat.

That's just my two cents of what kind of "Why you trying to take the only klingon unique thing?" and "Never gonna happen!" ship that I want. :3

Wait, you want a frigate-sized full carrier? Yeah, I like that. I'd like to suggest a shuttle-sized frigate carrier. Or a nanite swarm that can build a battlehip in an instant

It would make so much more sense if the Carriers were bigger.

I like your idea. I do love the Battlestar Gallactica strategy of her taking all the fire while the fighters do the attacking.

It'd be a new strategy of playing, which people shouldn't really argue against.
