If you want to turn to PvP after a while, consider this : you will never tank as well as an engineer (think of miracle worker). So maybe you want to do what your character does best. As a tactician, that would be... damage ! Everyone does that in Star Trek Online, it's a universal focus, but it's even more important for tacticians. If you fly in a Bortasq or in a Tor'Kaht, you will do slightly more damage and be significantly a worse tank than the same ship flown by an engineer. For PvE, it's not a problem, it's fun (although you might want to change your gameplay a bit after two years with a captain engineer) and who cares if your damage is less focused (very high damage with a cruiser = Fire at Will = great for agro, but no focused damage) ? Optimization is unimportant in this game, except if you like it or take part in PvP matches.

Try a carrier, fly a battle cruiser, have fun with a lot of ships, but don't invest too much in anything but a true tactician's ship that needs to be optimized when you will feel ready for PvP. The Mirror ships are cheap and 100% sufficient for all PvE content (except the no-win scenario where you need an escort/destroyer anyway).

I recommend you to take a look at my escort and destroyer table. You will see that good options for the Klingon factions are actually more diverse than for other factions because you have access to birds-of-prey, quite unique ships indeed. The Hoh'SuS and the Norgh have already a lot to offer, and to compare with them, you can check Lobi ships like the Krenn, the S'Golth, the Tal Shiar adapted Destroyer. The prices of the latter two have been decreasing lately, they are cheaper than the usual 70-80M credits.

There are plenty of options, everyone can find one's own way.

Well, i hear good things about the Bortas here, might have a try on it. Is it worth getting the 3-Set or is there a variant to "prefer"?

the biggest downside to the bortas is its size and turn speed, its like trying to turn a buss in a bathtub full of glue, the carrier is much the same aswell, I would advise going for either a BOP, Siege Destroyer or if u can afford it the Adapted Destroyer, I love mine and it dishes out so much damage its silly.

I.R.W. Valdore gives 0 (132283) Radiation Damage to Tal'is with Thalaron Pulse. ==> Tal'is deals 132283 Special Damage to Tal'is with Immunity Matrix

The Guramba? looks pretty weak to me actually, can it compete with "heavy" Fed T5 escorts like a Fleet Patrol or an Armitage? It lacks of a console (but i admit it has a cool BOFF layout (same as the Patrol)).
But as i said, i'd more prefer a Battle Cruiser/Carrier/Battle Carrier
And since there are the Dil Mine-RCS it's much easier to find a good compromise between DMG res and Maneuverability...

well my siege destroyer packs a hefty punch, its not got the survivability of the bigger ships but then its not very big itself, its basicly an escort that has two options, fast and nippy with basic damage or slow and nasty with enhanced damage, Its still got the same survival of say the AD, I use both and personaly there very well matched, the Lance shot is also a great bonus, if your interested look me up in game and I can show you it in a private pvp session, I find these are a great way to show people a ship before they buy. @johankreig is my handle.

I bought the 3-pack when it came out and played around with the different variants and the console set but now I really just stick with the tac variant and the console that comes with it (disruptor autocannon.)

The 2pc bonus is nice, and the subspace snare is great for snagging an unsuspecting tacscort at Ker'rat, but you're better off slotting in a +turn neutronium console or a tachyokinetic convertor or something instead.

So if you're not looking for anything fancier than max pewpew, just grab the Tac Bortasqu'.

My tac KDF has a few ships, seems to be a good matchup. Right now my active ships are a B'Rel retrofit for a light assault ship, a Fleet Tor'khat for heavy assault, and a Mirror Vo'quv that I fly like a battleship. They are all a lot of fun to fly and each of them can crank out a lot of damage with a tac on the stick. I'm probably going to get a Guramba next to complete my line. I also have a Kamarag Retrofit from the anniversary giveway, and have to agree with the previous poster who said it is a very good ship, but TBH if you are looking at Fleet Kamarag then you might as well get the Fleet Torkhat. I also had the free Hegh'ta for a long time and found it quite enjoyable. I have already tried the Mirror Qin and did not like the handling of it. I have the free Orion cruiser too but I dont really see a use for it with this character, since tac really needs to focus on strike damage first, and I already have a better carrier anyway. Hope this helps.

I got the three pack when it came out since it is cheaper together than piecemealing it. I'm not particularly fond of it, but at least all varients are unlocked for all my characters if the ship later strikes my fancy.

I have the 3 pac but I use the tac version most, if i could only have 1 that would be it. As for what others are saying about the bort, its love/hate. It is a extremely high learning curve high payout ship when using DHC. For someone like me who is experienced in handling it with DHC, it is much better then the Fleet Torkaht, which I haven't bothered using in months. The Bortasqu is tankier, has a much more versatile boff layout, and 5 tac consoles on the tac version, and the autocannon can hit hard at times and is fun. I don't see a need to give that up for the extra turn rate the Torkaht gets, especially since LoR with all the stuff that buffs turn being improved like RCS, impulse thrusters, epte, aux2id with doff, and the dil mine consoles.

Also if you feel like loading beams on it and playing like a fed cruiser, the tac Bort outperforms all of them doing that to.
