# 1 Useful Links
09-14-2013, 04:14 PM
Just a list of useful links for Foundry writing. Can we get a mod to sticky this, please? EDIT: Thank you, Brandon!

Post a link and I'll add it in.

-- FoundryTalk chat channel

Wikis:
-- Memory Alpha, the live-action canon Star Trek wiki.
-- Memory Beta, the Star Trek expanded universe wiki.
-- Memory Gamma, Star Trek fanon wiki good for inspiration or story ideas (message the authors first, though). Also hosts fiction.
-- Star Trek Expanded Universe, another fanon wiki.
-- Star Trek Online Wiki from Gamepedia.
-- TV Tropes, wiki on story elements and archetypes across fiction, with forums on various media and tips on writing (among other things, the "So You Want To..." pages). Warning: TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Life. And Your Vocabulary.
---- TV Tropes index for Foundry mission pages

Tutorials and Guides:
-- Perfect World tutorial list
-- kirkfat's YouTube channel
-- Ship Scaling for NPCs from StarbaseUGC.com
-- Reskinning Ground Mobs: Rank Orders
-- Canon alien race builds from STOwiki. You want a Cardassian in faction uniform or a Denobulan, period? This is the place. (Guide is incomplete.)
-- STO Academy's canon alien race builds
-- From Wikipedia, lists of US Navy enlisted ratings and rates. Useful for making Starfleet enlisted. (Note that Starfleet seems to use "Crewman" instead of "Seaman".)
-- More kirkfat guides
-- Memory Alpha's list of undeveloped Star Trek episodes, for possible inspiration
-- Stardates Guide from TrekGuide.com (pre-STO dates only)
-- STO Academy Stardate Calculator
-- An Introduction to the Gorn, Gorn RP guide by sander233 that could be useful for writing Gorn.
-- How to calculate travel time for warp and quantum slipstream travel
-- The Path to 2409, all chapters. Besides being the place to look for the midterm daily in the game, it contains a wealth of historical information to draw from for the interim between Nemesis and STO.

Websites:
-- StarbaseUGC.com, Foundry fansite with a lot of useful goodies on it
---- StarbaseUGC chat room, for instant answers to questions.
-- Ex Astris Scientia, highly respected Star Trek fansite with tons of heavily researched information, particularly about ships
-- SF Debris, science fiction video review site with a whole heck of a lot of Star Trek, pointing out stuff that works in writing and stuff that doesn't (common plot holes to avoid and so forth).
-- Real Sector Maps for Star Trek compiled by realmalize, mapping both canon and real life stars against STO's galaxy map.
-- realmalize's warp speeds chart
-- TrekGuide.com, Star Trek episode guide and notes on stuff that appeared in them
-- STO Idrona's blog -- maps, reviews and more.
-- Behind the Name -- source for human names, including a random name generator.

Podcasts:
-- Bazag Stabs, a podcast series by our own Bazag about the Foundry.
-- The Foundry Roundtable, a weekly podcast about the foundry. Previous episodes available at this YouTube channel.

Languages:
Disclaimer: I've got no idea at all how accurate any of these are. Caveat lector.

Random Generators:
-- donjon RPG Tools, which includes various random generators that can be used to produce quest hooks, ship names and bios, alien names, etc.
-- Generator Land: Star Trek Alien Species Name Generator. The same site has probably hundreds of other generators that may come in handy.
-- Rum and Monkey.com Name Generator List. Generators specifically for Star Trek that I've located on the site:

---- Andorians and Aenar

Great list, should be very useful. This needs to be stickied!

You might want to include Bazag's podcasts on there, I have a feeling a very useful set of tutorials and overviews will develop quite quickly!

I do really recommend people use Memory Beta just as much as Memory Alpha. You're not bound to it, but there's some really useful expansion on under-developed canon ideas in there.

Oh, very much so. Would never have learned about Nadifa La Forge (Geordi's niece from a TNG novel whom I made into an admiral) without it.
