# 1 Mogai Retro BoFF layout
10-12-2013, 07:48 AM
Hey everybody,

I havent played in a few months, and i wanted to get some advice on my proposed layout. I've flown tac Defiants and B'Rels before with similar layouts. But this time around i would like to know if i should switch certain abilities to certain tiers (such as tac team and EPTW, and EPTS). I would also like to try a beam boat for a change since my Def and Brel were both DHC boats. The ship will be used only for PVE maybe just the 5 mans, but i would like to try out elites maybe even the larger fleet actions...no PVP for me.

Here is what i was thinking:

Tactical
TT1 - BFAW2 - TS3 - APO3
TT1 - BFAW2

Engineering
EPTS1 - EPTW2 - ATD3 or ATS3 ??? (i forget which one was better)
EPTS1 - EPTW2

Science
HE1

So what do you guys think? are BFAW and TT good where they are at or should i swap them? same with EPTS and W. I figured since i'm dps i would want BFAW and EPTW to be on the second tier. The only thing i hate is the one science station i only have HE. I would have liked HE and PH, but APO does give me tractor immunity. I could swap the universal boff slot from eng to sci but then i only get one EPTS/W, so i wont have continous EPTW/S. But in exchange i would get HE+PH+PO.

EDIT: also for weapons i'll run 3F 3A beam array...still undecided on type but will be either AP or Dis, and a Quantum up front.

thoughts?

Why a Mogai Broardsider?

Surely DHC's would be more effective especially with Romulan Battle Cloaking.

Don't bother putting a Torpedo on it, you'll lose too much damage losing your rear beams when you bring the Torpedo around. Just run all beams with the Kinetic Cutting Beam (KCB) in the rear.

I already have a Defiant with DHCs and a B'Rel with DHCs both of them with nearly identical BoFF layouts...i just wanted to try something different. The thing that stands out the most to me on the build i want to try out is that with rolling BFAW it could potentially be an aggro magnet. My Def and Brel are set up primarily for single target DPS with double CRF and a backup CSV and TS if i need to do some AOE instead. I also havent bothered adding up the numbers but i'm almost certain the dps will be lower too on a beam boat.

I run mine with a DBB setup, works great. At least in CE, haven't tried it much elsewhere.

I would forget about the torpedo, and use APB in place of the TS3.
Also change the ATD to DEM2.

I decided to trade in my ar'kif for a fleet mogai tonight. I went ahead and bought the mogai retrofit and valdore for the console set bonus and customization options (not fond of the mogai's look, but i love the valdore).

Have to say I'm absolutely loving this ship so far. It doesnt give up too much of my ar'kif's damage or escort playstyle, but it's so much more resilient. My ar'kif used to get blown up left and right, that ship would turn into a black hole at the slightest breeze, but the mogai is tough as nails, almost like flying a battlecruiser.

Here's the setup I'm running, might need some tweaking still but so far it's doing pretty good:

Boffs
Commander Tactical: Torp Spread 1, Beam Overload 2, Torp Spread 3, AP:Omega 3
Lieutenant Tactical: Tactical Team 1, Beam Overload 2
Lieutenant Commander Engineer: EPtS 1, EPtS 2, Aux to structural 2
Ensign Science: Polarize Hull 1
Lieutenant Universal (science): Hazard Emitters 1, Hazard Emitters 2

Gives me two hull heal over times, a burst heal, and the damage resistance buff, and two good shield heals/buffs/power boosts. Two copies of beam overload and torpedo spread to keep the firepower out, and AP Omega as my burst damage booster (I try to use it for alpha strikes and when using the ionized particle beam or my singularity abilities).

For my active space Doffs, I run:
2x Purple Conn Officers (Reduce tactical team cooldown, so I only need 1 instead of 2 copies)
Purple Projectile Weapons Officer (reduced cooldown on torpedoes)
Purple Projectile Weapons Officer (gain shield power when using torpedoes)

for the moment, I'm trying out a few different doffs for my fifth active. Been using a blue warp core engineer to reduce the cooldown on emergency power to shields, but i also have one that clears debuffs when i use epts. There's yet another version that increases all power levels when using epts, and I'm not sure which to go with at this point.

For consoles:

Engineering Consoles:
Shield Absorbtive frequency generator (Valdore console)
Ionized Particle Beam (Mogai retrofit console)
Plasmonic Leech
Fleet Enhanced RCS console

Science Consoles:
Field Generator
Fleet Embassy Plasma Infused Shield Emitter Console

Tactical Consoles:
4x Plasma Infusers

And my weapon setup:
Fore: Quad Plasma Cannons, Dual Heavy Romulan Plasma Cannons, Dual Romulan Plasma Beam Bank, Plasma Torpedo Launcher
Aft: 2x Romulan Plasma Turrets, Kinetic Cutting Beam

Going for the borg set for shield/console/deflector/engines, but havent gotten it yet (just hitting t3 rep tomorrow). Also aiming to get the hyper plasma torpedo launcher from romulan rep, which will be godly with the torp spreads.

Now Dual Beams and Turrets with a Torpedo could work, especially with a KCB in the back. It would make more sense than broardsiding.

If you want beams and broardsides for a change of pace you don't buy an Escort.

I also have KDF and Fed engineers with cruiser, beams and boff setups similar to the ones I posted above. DBB sounds like a good idea though, i havent tried one of those yet and I think i will ditch the torps. I'm going to hold off on the DEM for now and still go with APS or APD. DEM is the one you want to use with that one special DoFF right? name starts with an M i think?

Really you only need one dual beam bank, to utilize with beam overload for spike damage. You're better off using dual cannons/dual heavy cannons (or quad cannons) for your other forward slots, as they'll have a higher damage output than the banks otherwise.

One thing you might like to consider is a purple energy weapon doff with the 50% proc -10s cooldown on beam special attacks (not the subsystem targetting one). That would free up a lt tac slot for APB or APD to use in your cooldown gap on APO.
