Played for 30 minutes this time before being booted. Then couldnt get back on for 3 hrs. Just tried again got online for about 5 minutes and it booted me. Now I cant get back on. I am disollusioned already and can't see me playing this beyond its first month. Very very disappointed.

Patches at retail are common. MMOs are a fluid product. Most often the product in the box is outdated because that code has been used in beta or "head start" and bugs have been found and fixed.

A patch day 1 for an MMO is generally a good thing.

I played for a grand total of 20 hours this weekend and not once did it crash or did I have a problem. I dont have to wait in line to log in nor dd I get any lag. As for patching none of my patches took longer then 20 min to download. I have been playing since open beta and I did have to sit though the server downs and all that but I have not had very many problems since release.

# 323 Mixed experience

Lemme see,

I too have played for hours with no real issue and have enjoyed the experience. Leading me to believe that my system is just fine as it pertains to the operation of STO. It runs with no issue or glitch...........................................w hen it runs. Since my system has no issue running it any other time, why then would I continue to get booted, lose connection, or get login que'd? Or even not be able to log in at all? This is sporatic at best and I have done nothing different to make it do so. It is obvious that my system can handle it and then some, I also have a 1MB DSL connection so I'm not sharing a line as you do with a cable modem.

So what gives? It can't all be everyones computer or connection..............some things just need to be resolved if this is going to get off the ground. WHEN i'm able to play it's great. When I'm unable to successfully stay logged in.....it's frustrating.

However, this one was by far is the most troublesome. Cryptic is going to have to save face, otherwise risk it all. By far, this is the most ambitious MMO to date and by far did a **** poor job on projections of users and server requirements.

They based thier decisions based upon previous MMO products like Marvel. This is not marvel comics which is a niche market. This is Star Trek, which has a predated past of original series episodes, Voyager, Deep Space Nine, Star Trek Next Generation as well as countless movies and generations of trekkies and followers. When I was just a young teenager, I used to go to at least two star trek conventions per year. This by far, is the most anticipated MMO for those of us who grew up with the franchise. As far as I am concerned, I was hoping a company the size of blizzard or even SONY with thier online entertaInment division would have handled it.

Poor planning, poor excuses and no forsight. How dare Cryptic take my trek and ruin it. This was the first and last chance that we had at STO.
Ok, for the sake of any debate, I'll admit to being 48 to vouch for the antiquity of my point of view or old school perspective.

Overall, I agree with your sentiment as for Cryptic's poor planning or forecasting this genre's user base and the impact of that upon any server capacity. However, when I hear someone state it was the last chance we had at it, I would have to disagree. Like your self, I've experienced a few beta phases going back to EQ1 as well, and I do recall them being bumpy too, but to say that this would be or is the last chance, no-way!

I'm a pessimistic person at heart, and get extremely frustrated as well, but even I can be a bit more optimistic in regards to this genre opening up to the age of MMO's. Cryptic will iron it all out eventually, and yes there will be some people who are too impatient and will allow their frustrations to pull them away. But there will always be those of us whom do understand it will take some time to resolve. We understand the problems associated with the launch of a new game, especially one for the Star Trek genre. We understand that it wont be perfect and may not meet the expectations of "our" Star Trek or what it means to us for a game to be Star Trek. But we also understand it is the first and only one to reach the pinnacle of being an MMO and for that there is no competition yet in this regard.

So in the end, after all is said and done, the only decision a player has to make is to either be patient and understanding, or post your frustration (hopefully with some civility and dignity) and decline to play until some later date when the games stability is finally in place.

Played about 14 hrs Sat. & 12 hrs yesterday, only dropped conn twice and was able to re-log w/ minor issues (one server queue read 749 of 749, but re-logged ad got in). Lag was an issue both evenings in the multi-player areas (SB 24 & some Deep Space Encounters). Not bad compared to other MMO launches I've suffered.

Oh, and I played for about 7 hours.

Perhaps, before you blame the game/devs, you should look at your hardware. For all you know, the crashes might be because of some pieces of your hardware. Right? I mean... did the crash report (if you read it) state that Cryptic's servers kicked you off line? Or was your ISP limiting your bandwidth (Which a lot are doing now)? I hate when people blame the developers, with no first hand knowledge of what is going on.
I had a similar experience probably about 10-12 hours of play on Saturday and Sunday. Got kicked once. Other than that very smooth, with no lag or other problems. Friday was rather problematic, but the rest of the weekend was great.

Mordanna, if you were having the problems you are describing on Saturday and Sunday the problem is almost certainly on your end.

I’ve beta’d (and played) just about every MMO that has come out since Ultima Online. I’m also a Software Test Engineer by career so I have a pretty keen eye for QA and development issues.

That being said, this game is in a pretty bad state right now and crytic really should take ownership of this.

People say, “This is par for the course with MMOs”. I hate to break it to you but no, its not. There have been several launches that were very smooth with only minor hiccups along the way. And even ******** when it was having its queuing problems admitted to their fault and gave everyone several free days of play. I think that’s the LEAST cryptic could do here, extend the “free” month for an extra week or so.

Also on the “This is par for the course with MMOs” argument, well, its not an argument, it’s a very poor excuse. MMO’s have been out for over a decade now and its about time they started learning from their mistakes. A rocky launch should not be considered normal, it should be considered something to be avoided. Would it really fly if car manufacturers said, “When you buy a new car it will only run 75% of the time for the first month, but it will get better with time.”? Would that be the standard other manufacturers would hold themselves to? “Well, if Fords break all the time, we’ll make a piece of crap too, its par for the course”, hell no. You want to know why Blizzard is where they are as opposed to Sony? Blizzard owned up to their mistakes, they believed in their product and were so sure of it they were willing to risk loss to save face. They gave free days. They admitted to problems on the forums. Sony never did that, and now, neither is cryptic. To use the car analogy.. Blizzard is the Honda of MMO makers.. Sony and Crypic.. the Dodge and Edsel.

I myself am an admiral already, i love the game, however, there are NO mission at the admiral rank, so whats the point in achieving this level?

Content needs to hurry up. and also there is still many missions that are bugged, like the "caged fire" mission.

Not being negative, i like this game, but there really needs to be more content before player lose interest and move on to other games
