01-28-2010, 04:14 PM
POLL REQUEST

Which NVIDIA driver works best with STO?

1. 196.XX
2. 195.XX
3. 191.XX
4. 190.XX
5. 188.XX
6. 186.XX
7. Other

Please state which.

Including FPS examples with hardware used and any other issues would be great.

Cheers.

(Yes, I know that a new 196.34 beta came out on the 26th, so we haven't had chance to try it yet)

The latest ones work best, they just released a new set.

I'm getting a solid 60fps with my GTX260 using the 196's
Was even managing 25ish in the middle of 30+ borg during end of beta

Always amazes me how people can get framerates that high. Am I supposed to tweak something on the card to make that happen, or is it settings? Using a GeForce 210, getting an average of 15fps in high density areas with the 196.21 drivers.

Geforce 210 is a budget entry lvl card not really designed for gameing

two weeks ago, I had a LOT of crashes with the latest nvidia drivers unter windows 7 x64. No problem though in win xp, but I didnt check the fps...

If I may ask a bit off topic... I have a geforce 275, and it regulates the fan by itself... sometimes, just seeing the menu at the beginning seems to be so demanding on the graphics, that the fan gets louder and louder trying to cool the card.

Does anyone else have this kind of problem?

Thats a very low end card and it will not improve on it . Also some ppl have low fps but they link only their gfx card thats decent but the other parts are lacking like ram/cpu etc so they are bottlenecking their card.

I had to make a choice, lifetime sub or new video card. Oh and the card I have is a vast improvement over the one it replaced.

Might give the sticky overheating thread a read.

If you have an LCD monitor turn VSYNC on in the options. If not and lcd monitor when the game starts enter /maxfps 60 in the options of the launcher under advanced command enter /perFrameSleep 10

Those should keep your 275 down well within safe temperature range. I'm using a gtx 285, did that and I manually set my fan to just always stay at 60%. Also moved one of my case fans to push more air over my video card. Now I rarely hit 70C while playing and the noise is not bad.
