Heavy Beam arrays, cruiser-exclusive weapons - escorts have their pulse weapons/dual heavy cannons (For the record, I'm an escort jockey here, but not one of the "DHCx4" type escorts.), so cruisers should get their own, class-specific weapons. Escorts (what with their name of "escort" and all) should be support craft for cruisers, not vice versa. The tip of the spear, so to speak, first into battle... but not to end it, just to cause mayhem and confusion in the lines, until the cruisers get there. Cruisers should be capable of mounting larger, heavier beam arrays, weapons capable of putting out more firepower than the smaller frigates and destroyers that consist of the rest of Starfleet.

Although, phasers strips on ships after the Ambassdor-class, are sort of 360* weapons, capable of firing from any point along the strip (to my understanding reading MA anyways). So I'm not sure what I'm saying here, EXCEPT I would very much like to see more beam weapons - tiny little frigates with tons of pulse weapons really shouldn't be king, with cruisers several times their length and beam flying around.

IN MY OPINION, heavy beam arrays + the upcoming Cruiser Commands, would make cruisers more the heavy bruisers of Starfleet that they should be. Cruisers aren't non-combat ships, they're just not built with combat as their primary goal - a warp core capable of powering a ship the size of the Galaxy to an acceptable speed, AND maintaining shields, sensors and everything else a Galaxy-class needs for regular duty, should be capable of putting out far more firepower than a 250~ meter frigate, even if that 250 meter frigate is designed for *just* firepower and making things explode quickly.

come on cryptic, with all the tac oriented hybrid ships you have admitted to your tendency for dps gameplay, and we do not blame you. desinging non combat content that is repeatedly interesting. is a hard job, and a job many fail at. Even big names routinely fall flat on their noses trying to create interesting non combat content.

In a away, you need to look at the indy scene and all the games and new or reinvented gameplays. Trying to mimic that regularly is hard.

We want to give you all the time in the world for that task, but in the mean time we would like you to equalize the field and stop the weird esfort/dhc favoritism.

You admit that DHC ans tac boffs are the way to go, every new ship released lately had those specifica.

Give us heavy beams, and look into the a2b/marion thing and think hard about why that is felt to be needed as much as it is.

think really hard.

I would say that I tend to spend most of my play time in either my Fed or Rom Tac captain using a mix of all types of vessels.

That said, I concur with what kadams said regarding escorts and cruisers. Cruisers should get their own Heavy Beam Array type to bring them up more in the DPS scale of the game. Either that or give regular beam arrays and dual beam banks a boost when used on non-escort class ships.

I'm also a bit of a canon junkie and arm my ships as they are seen in the TV shows and movies. To that end, I don't mount any cannons on ships which were not seen to have them on screen. So while my Defiant/Sao Paolo mount cannons, my Prometheus, Chimera, Akira/Armitage, and other escorts mount entirely beams and dual beam banks. Sure, I don't end up at the tip-top of the DPS scale, but I'm far from useless in a mission since I know how to use my ships effectively as armed.
