# 1 Level Appropriate Gear?
10-10-2013, 03:29 AM
I have been playing STO for quite some time now, but I cannot help but notice that the loot system is in dire need of changing.

I am finding it increasingly difficult to justify how MK X gear is level appropriate for END GAME content drops for Level 50 players.

I can understand it as Episode drops to help players get geared while leveling, but during end game content? Where most players are on the cusps of having a full MK XII build? it kind of undermines the need/want to grind when your drops benefit you none, both performance wise and financially. I understand that players drive prices on the market as well as the price for MK XII gear.

I also understand that increasing the MK XII drop rate of items will dramatically hurt the value of it, but rightfully so. MK XII gear is on average 0.05% better then its MK 11 counterpart of the same quality, which hardly justifies the cost to begin with. I am by no means posting this as a rant because I cannot afford good gear. Rest assured you, I have all the Lobi Ships/Consoles as well as all the ships purchasable out of the exchange so its not a monetary gripe. Its a gripe that you work hard to complete a desired goal, placed how you wanted to yet walk away with dismal drops. Even if you cannot use the said gear, it should be nice to be able to profit better from your work.

My recommendations for:

-Sb24
-Gorn Minefield
-Fleet Actions
-Crystalline Entity Elite

Are granted all players on team are lvl 50, should be MK XI drops both during the instance and ending loot bag with a CHANCE of a MK XII drop. Not MK X with a chance at MK XI...

I would keep Ker'rat and STFs as is. With possibly better loot table?

I totally agree with you! there needs to be a drastic change in the loot drop system, after spending two days in SB24 and Gorn Minefield only to get mk 10 and 11 gear.

Agreed, level 50s should see XI as the standard drop.

You may as well discount the loot from Crystalline, even 1st place gets 2 very rare Mk X items which in most cases are utterly worthless both to use and to sell, they simply are discarded. Loot drops in this game are awful, only Kerrat and the occasional STF will give you anything of use for either your fleet or to sell to someone else.

I cannot for the life of me understand why end game missions drop Level 40 gear, just ridiculous.

Thanks everyone.

I doubt this will get noticed by the higher powers thereof, but it does need to be addressed.

It, um, is level (Rank) appropriate gear.

T1 = Mk I-II
T2 = Mk III-IV
T3 = Mk V-VI
T4 = Mk VII-VIII
T5 RALH = Mk IX-X
T5 RAUH = Mk XI-XII

With that, have to keep in mind the following in most cases:

Mk XI = Mk XII
Mk XI = Mk XII
Mk XI = Mk XII

Mk X = Mk XII
Mk X = Mk XII

Mk IX = Mk XII

lol, You just solidified what I am trying to present...

yes I get the quality scheme and how it's implemented. Thats why I never buy XI purple consoles as the MK XII blue consoles provide same stats at sometimes half the price.

The thing is ALL End Game loot both In and at end of instance should be XI-XII despite quality.

Yes MK X Purple may equal a MK XII green equivalent, but no one uses that. Most use MK XI/XII Purples...

Mk IX = Mk XII

Very Rare Mk IX provides the same boost as Common Mk XII.

So if you want Mk XII gear to drop, there should be no issue with Very Rare Mk IX gear dropping...

How is MK IX helping a level 50 end game player? No one is using that and you know that.

No one wants to use common MK XII. They want drops that benefit them in one way or another, hence the loot should be upgraded to fit "Appropriate Gear" for the said player. Which you broke down perfectly:

T1(1-9) = Mk I-II
T2 (10-19)= Mk III-IV
T3 (20-29)= Mk V-VI
T4(30-39) = Mk VII-VIII
T5 RALH(40-44) = Mk IX-X
T5 RAUH(45-49) = Mk XI-XII

Which should be corrected to

T5 RAUH(45-49) = MK X-XI
T5 VA(50) = MK XI-XII

I am not saying ALL End Game gear/item drops should be Purple quality. It should be a range of Common-Very Rare MK XI with the CHANCE to get a Common-Very Rare MK XII drop. Nothing lower then MK XI. Granted all players on the team are level 50. Its really no diffrent then any other rank. Where you get a chance at the base MK level for that rank Common-Very Rare with a chance at getting the max MK level Common-Very Rare i.e a level 4 will see common to very rare MK I to Common to Very Rare MK II
