...so lets say you were put in the Directors chair and given the opportunity to launch a new Trek show. You get to choose a crew, a ship (or station/planet) and a setting. What would you do with your new found power?

Rules (just because)

* maximum character cast of 15
* all new characters (no Worf, Picard, EMH etc)
* you can't rewrite on-screen history

I would set a show up on a ship, probably a Cruiser (as standard) and it would take place following the Federation - Dominion War; most probably focusing on the fallout of the Hobus Explosion too (though my series of events would differ from that of Cryptic).

I would have:

* Captain: Male Andorian (loved Shran)
* First Officer: Female Human
* Doctor: Female Deltan
* Nurse: Male Rigelian
* Chief Engineer: Female Andorian
* Assistant Chief: Human Male
* Tactical Officer:
* Security Officer: Male Saurian
* Sr Science Officer: Male Xindi Primate (first Xindi Starfleet Academy Graduate)
* Jr Science Officer: Female Cardassian (not a member of Starfleet, but via some sort of Officer exchange program; see T'Pol, Kira, Seven)

* Communications #1: Human Female
* Communications #2: Male Rigelian
* Helm #1: Male Tellarite
* Helm #2: Bajoran Female
* Entertainer (Bartender/Chef): Betazoid

Since part of the Treaty of Bajor seems to be that Cardassia no longer has an offensive military in exchange for Starfleet protection of Cardassian space, I'm thinking something out in that direction of the Alpha Quadrant, relearning the history of the Hebitan Civilisation that was lost under the Central Command, protecting Cardassian space from a new threat discovered on the far side of their territory, battling stronghold pockets of True Way and Dominion that refused to recognise the Treaty...

Ship: only existing Yeager-type in Starfleet, its very existance frowned upon by the FDC for being too aggressive a design and by the SCE for looking so piecemeal, only the record of effectiveness held by it and its crews during the Dominion War and now the restoration period keep it from being decommissioned and broken down for parts.

Crew, Command Staff;
Captain: Male Human from Sigma Iotia II, one of the few Sigma Iotians to succeed in entering Starfleet, unconventional thinker, doesn't have a problem with shooting first, amatuer archeologist, considers Humphery Bogart movies to be a historical reference...

2inC: Bajoran Female, usually confused by the Captain's thought processes, doesn't trust the Cardassian Tac officer.

Ch-Eng: Zaldan Male, believes human courtesy is dishonesty, also believes that most hardware problems can be easily solved by forceful application of a blunt object.

Tac: Male Cardassian Glin, 'liason officer', lost his family when the Dominion began purging Cardassian civilians during the Battle of Cardassia Prime, honorable except when dealing with True Way and Dominion forces who he considereds untrustworthy scum who would stab one in the back without a second thought.

Conn: Female Andorian, usually calm and collected, but apt to try insane manuvers when piloting just to see if the ship is capable of them.

Ops: Female Aenar, the eye of the storm in the craziness of the crew, somehow keeps the ship running at peak effiency despite the rest of the senior staff.

CMO: Tamarian Male, has learned to speak outside of metaphors, but habitually drops into them when attempting to explain a complicated concept.

Crew, Junior Officers:
Asst. Ch-Eng: Exocomp

Assistant Tac Officer: Human Male, small-time black marketeer, smuggler, scoundrel, rogue... and operator of the ship's hidden still that produces real alcohol instead of synthol, so he gets a certain amount of liency from some of the Command Staff, while Ops and the 2-in-C are trying to shut him down.

Other Characters:
Cardassian Government Liason; the Yeager's contact with the Cardassian government.

Starfleet Admiral; the Captain's direct superior, doesn't know half of what the crew actually gets up to, but believes they do a good job and should keep on doing it.

Admiral's Aide; does know what the Yeager crew really does, but unfortunately can never get anyone else, neither the Admiral nor the Cardassian Government Liason to believe them.

Jem'hadar First; recurring enemy, develops a respect for the fighting abilities and dedication of the Yeager's crew.
----
Proud Supporter of the Yeager-type.

My ship: the U.S.S. Federalist. A Prometheus class starship on a long term patrol mission along the furthest deep-space colonies in Federation space. Their story takes place around the same time as STO- about 30 years after Voyager/Nemesis.

Dominique McElligott as Captain Aznia Deet

A joined trill who was never prepared to host a symbiont, but was called to do so in an emergency. The Deet symbiont was formerly hosted by one of Starfleet's most decorated medical officers. At conflict with herself far more than she lets on, Aznia appears outwardly as a strong, by-the-books, no-nonsense Captain; but struggles with the moral scope that comes with the big chair. She appears strict, unbending, and even distant to her crew at times, but is capable of great compassion, and a fierce 'mother bear' quality in protecting the ship and it's inhabitants.

Edi Gathegi as Commander Span

Chief Medical Officer and second highest ranking officer aboard the Federalist, Commander Span is a typical Vulcan. Dedicated and dilligent, Span is the consummate professional and an excellent doctor. Always reminding the Captain of the most logical sollutions available, he is ultimately loyal to the Chain of Command, and is more open to coping with the emotional action of his crew mates than many Vulcans would be. In many ways, Span is the most seasoned Starfleet officer aboard the ship.

Quentin Jackson as Lieutenant Quallo

A Ferengi by genetics only, Quallo is a badass in the highest regard. Physically stout and intimidating, Quallo is a dedicated worker and is as careful as an officer can come. Often Quallo concerns himself more with his interpretation of 'the spirit' of his orders, rather than the letter of the order. He's always willing to bend the rules to get the job done, but most importantly, he's always willing to get the job done.

Krysten Ritter as Lieutenant Commander First of Eight

A liberated Borg human, who spent nine years as a drone, First of Eight was formerly Lt. Nikki Rahal. In her former life, Rahal served with Captain Deet's previous host aboard the U.S.S. Sunnyvale. Reunited, they struggle together, both coping with the difficulties of living as a new individual with someone else's old memories. She is strong willed, and tries too hard to fit in with individuals like she used to- but things just aren't the same for her.

Sean Murray as Lieutenant Atom

After the destruction of Lt. Commander Data, and the reemergence of his personality in the Andriod B4, the Daystrom institute set out to replicate Dr. Soong's Android technology on their own. After several years work, their first prototype, Atom was created. Atom carries with him a curiosity toward the world, as well as a wealth of knowlege about the world around him. Unfortunately, he was not designed with the same kind of social and perceptual polish that Data has been imbued with. He is often first to put his foot in his mouth or to say something that he later regrets. Though he means well, he often creates misunderstandings that upset others around him.

Christopher Heyerdahl as Lieutenant Dewoh

If 'trying too hard' had a face and a name, Lieutennant Dewoh would be it. The tall, physically imposing Saurian security officer is all too awkward, but gives life aboard this Federation starship his all. He is one of the most loyal and friendly officers aboard, but has an immensely difficult time communicating with others. He tries to fit in, but often botches idioms and phrases that others are constantly left rolling their eyes at.

I'll be honest, I'm not so sure that my Federation crew is series-worthy. However, I am currently involved in a pen-and-paper Star Trek RPG campaign set in the aftermath of the Dominion War. The protagonists (who make up Away Team Alpha of the U.S.S. Axiom) consist of:

Team Commander & Science Officer: Lieutenant Murflak (Male Benzite)
Engineer: Lieutenant Alix (Female Orion, hastily-recruited deputy officer)
Security Officer: Ensign Jebediah McHale Bridge (Male Human, from New New Texas*)
Medical Officer: Dr. Mira (Female Klingon, exchange officer)
Diplomat: Gul Tolan Ranek (Male Cardassian, diplomatic liaison from the Cardassian provisional government) (my character)

*That's not a typo. According to Bridge's player, the name "New Texas" was already taken by another colony.

I don't have an idea for my own STO TV series, but can I nominate two STO fanfic authors and their stories? Shevet and "Fallout", and Starswordc and "Bait and Switch".

The Adventure:

- STAR TREK : SHADOWLANDS -

Period: 2373 - ??? (First episode, Battle of Sector 001 - First three (?) seasons cover Dominion War)
Tone: DARK. This will be about a black-ops crew doing the dirty work in war time. Section 31 will be involved.
Age rating: 14+

The Ship:

USS Tiburon NCC-68636, Akira-class assault carrier (air-ground multi-mission capable)

The Crew:

- CO: Cmdr. Greg Sander (actor: Sam Rockwell): Human father (William Sander) Klingon-Vulcan hybrid mother, born 2340. Something a "floater" for much of his early career; scores very high in space and ground combat smulations with exceptional unit leadership skills, but is happier performing applied research. This changes after his first taste of real combat. In early 2373, served as a Lt., assistant chief engineer aboard Steamrunner-class heavy frigate USS James Watt under Captain Gordon Kinkaid. At the start of the Battle of Sector 001, the Watt was decimated by the Borg Cube, killing or crippling every officer who outranked Lt. Sander. He assumed command, oversaw emergency repairs, offloaded civilians and wounded at Starbase 6, and pursued the Borg, rejoining the battle in time to help the Enterprise-E finally destroy the Cube. For his actions, Sander received Medal of Honor with clusters, promotion to full Commander, and command of the Tiburon.

- Mission Director: Cmdr. Zeal Cortan (actor: Dina Meyer: Betazoid, coordinates Tiburon's missions with Starfleet Special Warfare Command (SPECWARCOM). Severe disposition, active telepath. Has great confidence in Sander's abilities and demands a lot from him.

- XO: LCdr. Kyl Seal (actor: Roger Cross): 44-y.o. Bolian first officer of the Tiburon, Cardassian War veteran. Initially does not have a lot of respect for his inexperienced CO, but that develops as Sander proves to be an effective leader and inventive tactician.

- Chief Engineer: LCdr. Hector "Ming" Domingo (actor: Jesse Garcia): chief engineer, mechanical genius and expert on coffee. Hails from New Seville and is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu red belt. 31 years old, likes to get his hands dirty in the guts of his ship.

- Tactical Officer / Assault specialist: Lt. Carlos LaRoca (actor: Jay Hernandez): Former torpedo officer on USS James Watt. Family man (initially, wife serves onboard, son lives aboard with them) Lives dangerously. Favors the use of a compression phaser rifle with sniper scope and grenades. Smartass, gets along with everyone, often speaks a confusing Earth dialect known as Spanglish (which only Ming can understand) when out of combat.

- Armory Officer: Acting Ensign Ssharki (voice: Philip Seymour Hoffman): Gorn, cultural exchange officer, hails from Cestus III. 24 years old (just reached adulthood by Gorn reckoning.) Spent two years on Earth studying at Louisiana Tech with the Starfleet ROTC program. Loves baseball (plays catcher, switch-hitting slugger.) LOVES serving in Starfleet. Carlos LaRoca is his best friend. Carries heavy weapons, turrets and mortars on away missions (an absolute artist with a mortar.)

- Mercenary / Commando Team Leader (introduced season 2): Col. Waterman Green (voice: Jean Reno) Deinon. His species is a mysterious race of reptilian super-soldiers who exchange mercenary contracts for artistic commissions. In 2374, Starfleet Special Warfare Command contracted several Deinon combat teams (including Waterman's) for missions against the Jem'Hadar.

- Other regular characters:
Lt. Evan Blake - security chief, ambitious, doesn't trust Ssharki.
Lt. M'Gael - ops chief, Vulcan, understands Human humor but feigns cluelessness. LaRoca and Ming call him "Miguel"
Lt. Charlie Lin - senior science officer, from New Canton
Lt. Dr. Pat Christie - eccentric CMO
Lt. jg. Darryl Kinkaid - conn officer, son of Gordon Kinkaid
Lt. jg. Andrew Burke - fighter pilot
Ens. M'Karra - Caitian female assault shuttle pilot
SCPO Senn Redjec - Saurian female engineer / transporter operator / troubleshooter

- Recurring characters:
Capt. D'Ward - Klingon, CO of the IKS Norgh'Iw (Vor'Cha-class)
Cmdr. Lewis McLain - CO of the USS Punisher (Defiant-class)
Lt. Enrico Montoya - Special operations soldier, friend of LaRoca
Drake Tran - Ex-Maquis, special mission "facilitator," history with Montoya
Saul Moskovitz - insurgency/counterinsurgency tactical expert
Scaevola Kicur - Trill, Starfleet Intelligence. Previous host knew Ssharki's family
"Frank" - Section 31 contact

Captain Amanda Palmer - Courteney Cox
A dedicated officer who has put her career over any other priorities. Qualified as a MACO prior to promotion to Lt, but career history is primarily related to administration and operations management.

Commander Brandon Mayer - Jason Lewis
operations manager and co-executive officer. The voice of reason of the crew, and former Academy classmate of S'rR's Kane

Commander Bellic Chanos - Vin Diesel
Chief of Security and co-executive officer. A badass

Counsellor (Cmdr) T'Reya - Emily Ratajkowski
A former priestess initiate who murdered her abusive husband, making it appear he was mauled by a sehlat, and enlisted in Starfleet to help others. Despite being in her 90s, appears no older than a Human in her 20s due to longevity of Vulcan lifespan.

Lieutenant Commander Meliden Bowen - Eve Myles
Chief Engineer. A Cardassian orphaned when the Dominion bombed the hospital she had been born in. Adopted immediately by Human parents, who raised her in North Wales as if she were Human. This caused her to suffer from body dysmorphia, and to despise her Cardassian appearance. During a trip to Earth's past, she was surgically altered to appear Human, and since refuses to have the procedure reversed. Her best friend is S'rR's Kane.

Lieutenant Commander Heath Fletcher - Simon Baker
Assigned as Quantum Slipstream drive specialist, and happy to serve under Meliden, despite being of equal rank. Has a fondness for horse riding and telling jokes. A mentor to Todd Mitchell

Lieutenant Elyse Fisher - Emily Blunt
The strategic operations officer who advises the captain and crew on unusual mission specifics. A cross between an archivist and a quartermaster.

Lieutenant Todd Mitchell - Thomas Decker
Senior fighter pilot and diagnostic engineer. A gifted pilot who gained his rank from Admiral Jesu LaRoca following his actions during the Battle of Moab.

Lieutenant Claire - Lacey Chabert
The holographic avatar of the AI of the ship's computer library access information retrieval engram -- an OS upgrade from LCARS. Chose an 'average' Human appearance to assist with crew interactions, she is the girlfriend of Todd Mitchell.

Doctor (Lt) Ben Kincaid - Colin Farrell
Chief medical officer.

Ensign T'Natra - Gal Gadot
Senior navigator with a penchant for creative and unorthodox piloting manoeuvres. Has an interest in Ahd'r I'sH'd.

Ensign Tilly Campbell-Black - Helen Flanagan
Stellar cartographer and roommate of T'Natra. Has an interest in Ahd'r I'sH'd

Ambassador S'rR's Kane - Amy Smart
The binary clone of a Pentaxian defector and an Immortal Human, she was once a Starfleet officer, who has resigned her commission to serve her patron as the Pentaxian Dynasty's cultural ambassador to the Federation. Having known Captain Palmer since she (S'rR's) was 13, she views her as a best friend, and an older sister.

Ahd'r I'sH'd - Alexander Skarsgard
The security escort of Ambassador S'rR's, he rarely leaves her side. A member of the Pentaxian nobility, he has three wives, and is a starship commander in his own right.

Selya Chirk - Angelina Jolie
Hostess of the crew lounge, she was once a MACO to whom Captain Palmer owed a favour.

Cadet I'K'rR'h - Miley Cyrus
A Pentaxian cadet on her midshipman cruise. Born on one of the Dynasty's off-world colonies, she is viewed by I'sH'd as something of a bumpkin, but is never the less an intelligent and competent young woman with a delightful sense of humor.
