What's the difference between these torpedoes? Quantums do less damage and don't seem to reload any faster, so is there a reason to use them?

Quantums travel faster, but do less damage and reload longer.
Photons do more damage, and reload faster. Resulting in higher DPS, but travel much slower.

I prefer quantums as I like to do battle at long distances.

Hence in First Contact, Picard had Buck Compton's great-great grandson shoot about 4 quantums to wreck the unshielded borg sphere attacking 2064 earth.

Quantums do less dps, but more damage per hit. Photons do more dps, but lower burst damage.

Also ties into tactical abilities like High Yield and Spread. You'll get better results with Quantum.
