Unfortunately no, that ship has sailed. We'll never see Cardassian as playable for the same reason we'll never see Alpha quadrant Dominion as playable, because their stuff was already given away as lock box items. The Cardassian Galor class cruiser, the Jem'Hadar attack ship, heavy escort carrier, and dreadnaught cruiser, those species have already been picked apart and the ships given away as lock box items.

If it wasn't for that they could have done Cardassian as a sub faction similar to Romulan Republic. The story line is already there for it. Could have a similar tutorial that the Romulan Republic has, where you escape a Cardassian colony world that's under attack by the True Way. As far as the treaty stuff in the current game story line, true, Cardassia has a treaty that they can't field a military but can field a basic planetary defense force but i'm sure some sort of story line way of getting around that could be made.

So much about the treaty in STO timeframe.

It's either dead on broke. Either way, it's a non-factor.

As a Cardassian I'd rather ally with KDF than with oppressive Federation regime who tried to abolish my country from having an army - a right of any independent nation.

Lastly, Cardassians are in general authoritarian, militaristic and sneaky. They don't fit with Rodenberry's Federation.
You'd rather ally yourself with the exact people that more or less had to be stopped from performing a complete genocide of your race?
Not to start of how Klingons would NEVER ally themselves willingly with Cardassians as they despise them even more than the Romulans?

Sorry, but where is the logic in that?
This thread has so far failed to submit anything that would be logical or feasible in that direction...

There is also nothing logical or feasible to support Cardassians being entirely into Federation. Their authoritarian attitude, their xenophobia. Their way of running internal politics with the Obsidian Order.

Even making Cardassians as a kind of Romulan-like mini faction is a stretch.

They have little reason for loving Federation, but there is also little reason for Klingons to accept Cardassians.

In the end, Cardiassians fits nowhere. At best as a very unsure allies to any of both main factions. But they would end not very trusted by both KDF and Fed.

Fed Cardassians could be enabled just as a one more Fed species (along with Orions, they also don't make sense being the Orion Syndicate only) and that would be believable. Fed officer with Cardassian background, like current Ferengi ones - as opposed to NPCs from Ferengi Alliance. That's how far it goes for Cardies believing in Federation.

Sort of like how we didn't let Germany and Japan into the UN after WW2?

Except UN is a very loose union, while ST Federation is almost like a one federal state. That's not even close. UN also wasn't part of WWII war efforts. It did not exist then.

UN contains countries like China, Russia and US, hardly in love with each other.

Using this comparison, ST UN would be kind of galactic embassy having Fed, Klings, Cardassians and Romulans. Mostly occupied with barking at each other. And maybe policing Omega force.

They don't make too much sense as anything except their own faction, which is not possible.

Cryptic would need to pull something like D'Tan's movement, something comparable.

But Cardassians don't suffer from this kind of strong enough cultural shock like destruction of Romulus. They merely lost a war.

They aren't very likeable as well. Romulans were jerks in TOS or TNG, but they weren't shown making things like occupation of Bajor. And Cardassian evil characters in shows are pretty hardcore.

Now they may have a change in policy, but only few of them were shown as likeable characters. And even then, the most prominent of those "nice" Cardassians was a sneaky bastard.
As a counterpoint, we have the TNG Cardassians. They considerably less evil than Dukat.
