It's meant to be passive combat. Starfleet try not to kill people.

Starfleet should receive some sort of baton or something. A baton is theoretically non-lethal. Anything beats using your damn hands though.

I dont think that federation wants to be passive during a war with klingons...let me just run into combat with my thumb up my ass and say "hey i give up! kill me!"

The slow blade penetrates the shield
- Dune

Yeah, I know, wrong setting - However, since personal shields are a new thing in the Star Trek universe, lore-wise, and since these shields block ranged weapons only, it would make sense for both klingon and federation characters to have a heavier emphasis on melee combat than before.

Klingons, getting the Bat'leth, fine. I'd even be fine with having the weapon be restricted to the klingon race (not faction, but race) only. I would like to see more options for melee though, even if it's just stylistically.

The TOS era martial arts that feds get are fine and dandy, but Hikaru Sulu was noted as being a fencer, both in the original series, and in the new movie. There are a host of Vulcan weapons, and I am sure that there is more than one style of martial arts practiced across the galaxy.

Not looking for a game advantage, but it would add a lot to the game to have more options for style in regards to melee combat.

Actually the first & best bat'leth is up for grabs. Just keep scanning open space for the Sword of Kahless.

Do you even know what Passive comabt is?

Passive combat is used to incapacitate or disarm, not kill.

It's hard to argue that Starfleet tries not to kill when their phasers have a chance to DISINTEGRATE their enemies.
