Personally I think it needs to go away, badly.

It's an unnecessary complication and it's very prone to bugs and glitches.

It's a main reason why Marauding Boffs can't be edited, and also a major annoyance since player's regular boffs also can't wear anything off-duty. Which sucks when you want all your crew in mercenary outfits, for example (the only thing that really suits some species).

At this point of STO life this separation serves nothing. Just get rid of duty/off-duty costumes and costume slots and make it all one category.
Make all former off-duty and formal costumes cross-factional.
Call it a day and behold the simplicity.

Yes, it will lead to some clipping and strange clothing combinantions. We have both already in existence, nothing new.

+edit:
Not to mention some duty costumes makes no sense as "duty" ones.
Best examples - purely fanservice thingys like Orion bikinis or Seven of Nine clothes.

I agree with you entirely, however I suspect the only reason its still here is because they cant make all of the clothing combinations work reliably.

They don't anyway. I support this thread.

So inhumane superweapons, mass murder, and canon nonsense is okay, but speedos are too much for some people.

It used to work. They took it away. Can't allow us to have too much fun with costumes.

I support this 100%.

If some costume combination doesn't work right, people won't use it. Or maybe they will, just for laughs.

Either is better than artificially restricting them.

You've got my support. I really dislike that bridge officers can't wear any of the neat off-duty costumes, and it would be a lot of fun to mix-'n'-match some of that stuff with uniform pieces.

Like the Seven of Nine boots and the Ferengi coats.
