The AK30 was named in honor of my nephew who died at 17 on Labor Day. The AK part were his initials while the 30 was the number on his basketball jersey, miss him alot....

feel ya dude
my sister died 3 years ago at the age of 17. I was 19 at the time, 2 days ago was the anniversary..
Must say star trek helped me a lot those past 3 years, or else I might not have been around. Her name is french so it doesn't translate well into a ship name, but like you did with the initials, I try to pay my respect likewise

Doesn't matter, it is disrespectfull to post this after he explains how he wants to pay his respect to his nephew. I believe that answers your question all together. It is a good thread to keep alive.
K'Mec - Fearless. Since Klingons like to use bold names, and since they fear nothing in mortal life.
Celise - Bajor. Since this toon is from Bajor...
K'Ella - Mecenary. Was thinking generic sort of pirate type names, ran out of inspiration and chose this one.
Sevrin - Columbo. In honor of the late Peter Falk who played Lt. Columbo, the police detective. R.I.P. Peter.
My main captain was named after my old Rigger in 2nd Ed Shadowrun. So his first ship was the Seattle.
From there I stuck with a weapon theme that started with the Saber class USS Claymore.
After that there was the Akira class USS Tomahawk. The only canon named Akira I found had a Native American themed name, "Thunderchild", so I went with that.
That was followed by the Defiant class USS Katana. I wanted at least on ship by that name.
For the Dervish class one I settled on Scimitar. At the time the content of the "N" film had slipped my mind. Now it bugs me occasionally.
Then there's the Prometheus class USS Artemis. Sticking with the Greek mythology theme I picked out the most aggressive goddess I could think of. Artemis was a beautiful and skilled huntress, who ruthlessly killed just about any man (and some women) who even slightly offended her. Seemed fitting for an Escort ship.
MVAM promethus - Renzokuken - meaning "Continual Sword", "Sequential Sword" so not only cool name in FF context but also for MVAM.
Excelsior refit - Zantetsuken - meaning "steel-cutting sword". It lives up to it's name .
Recon science - Spira - planet in FFX - may change this for something that reflects the debuffing ability of a science ship. Still FFX was one of the best games and the name just matches the ship's look so well .
as my main ship names. My alt ships are nearly if not all FF based too but can't recall them all now.
