USS Venture Star was created a long time ago by my brother. It was the name of his fasa role play ship and an online role playing ship he was the GM of for a really long time. It's the current name of my Star Trek 2009 role playing group ship in expedition fleet .I inherited the name when he died in 2007. The ship and the name predate TNG and the failed reusable launch vehicle VentureStar by lockheed martin. I remember my brother being surprised when he saw the name of the VentureStar when we were kids.

In the game I am Katala K'thul a mysterious extradimentional alien. As such my ship names all revolve around Cthulhu mythos.

My starter ship is the U.S.S. R'lyeh
My Science vessel is the U.S.S. Alhazred

My current ship is now the USS Folsom, as I am currently naming most of my ships after famous prisons (I used to be a corrections officer). Before that, I was naming after famous battlefields but saw too many ships with the same name.

My current ship is the USS Huygens.

Huygens was an important, Dutch scientist in the 17th century. He first described the rings 'round Saturn and its moon Titan and spotted the Orion Nebula first. He also wrote a major book on math (about probabilties to be exact) and lots of works on physics.

He also was one of the first (maybe even the first, but no quite sure 'bout that) to write about the possibility of extraterrestial life.

So me being Dutch and flying a science vessel, hence the name

I picked my science vessel names after Nobel laureates and modern mathematicians

USS Witten: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Witten
Edward Witten also won the fields medal.

USS Smoot: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Smoot
BTW since Smoot gave his $1million Nobel purse to charity, he got tier 4.

Tier 5 will be:
USS Kilby: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Kilby
since almost all modern technology is based off his work and contributions.

USS Argonath II

From Lord of the Rings
The Argonath consists of gigantic statues of the kings of Gondor, Isildur and Anarion, that guard the northern border of Gondor on the river Anduin
