Escort Ships

These heavily-armed warships are built with the firepower to defend the Federation. Escort vessels are armed to the teeth, fast and maneuverable, which makes them a hard target to hit when they’re moving evasively.

They are ill equipped to deal with advanced science or engineering tasks. Their lack of adequate medical facilities will hinder their ability to maintain their crew's health. Fortunately, they are so well armed and armored that their crew's health is seldom threatened.

Primary Role: Heavy damage ship, boasting incredible firepower for its size.
Special: Bonus to damage, speed and maneuverability; can load cannons; bonus to weapon power; extra forward weapon slot.

perhaps you should research before posting.
Perhaps you should stop being an idiot?

Show me where DPS fits in that description. If anything, that describes an escort as a burst damage class.

Pretty much, yeah.

The secret is simple, Play in them and see who is where. I go from instance to instance until I find one with low dps then I simply go all out in it and eventually end up in first. That's how I did it in beta because sometimes the instance it puts you in will be full of good players, so you just have to go through them all, find one with a bit lower then join it and dps all the way. Great way to get items.

During beta the only chance I had to get good gear was to mine turrets for DPS, now not only does this not work as well (like they cut the dps down or something) but everyone does it. So me and everyone else that doesn't want to play escort are screwed more so than ever. Forever relegated to mediocre gear and paying large sums of energy to our escort overlords for table scraps.

Why such a fundamental flaw made it to launch is mind boggling. I can only assume they figured everyone would join a fleet and that the escorts would be charitable enough to give **** away. Moronic. There's far too many players in need of gear for that to ever work. Not everyone is sociable either.
Then go get some exploration badges,,, It's a way to get some decent gear

wow you trully can't read can you... its there in red BIG writeing... sheesh what you think eavy damage ship, boasting incredible firepower for its size meens? repair ship? roflmao...

to those that just said "so play a escort ship" he just said he dident want to do a escort... items should be put out equal no mather dps cause you might do other things like repair...
you might have your ship alittle difrent setup.. meening you wont get max dps but you play a mean backup role...
like lowering dps etc on enemy ship.

how ever doing this AND makeing sure the afk'ers and campers dont get it is more dificult.

Personally I think they just layed this game up to where people WILL buy money for it simply cause they made it so you need to buy up tonns of shield repairs and junk to be competative.

try playing a klingon and you will see just how easy you have it lol .. we would KILL for the weapons that are on your ship right now... let alone those blues your complaining about not getting..

was so bad we had to start a smuggling ring from Fed to Klingon just so we could get half way good whites..

I dont feel sorry for you what so ever..

make a escort ship and go pharm those rare items you want then mail them to your self and the ship you want to play..

think thats to much work ? that what us klingons had to do ..

Why worry about it until you are in your final ship.

I hate to say it, but it sounds like the OP is trying to play STO like other MMO's. This is not WOW, stop trying to play it like WOW. There's plenty of good suggestions in thread, try them.

I've had average success in fleet actions, getting equivalent gear. I don't know what the fuss is about.

If you are doing less damage over the course of a time period, then you are doing less DPS.

DPS isn't burst damage, well, unless you are talking burst DPS. It is simply how much damage you can do over a time period, averaged out to how much you do per second. And, yes, sometimes that means you need to do less damage for a bit so that you can do more overall.

Ultimately though, if you have 2 people that spend the same amount of time doing something, the one with higher average DPS for that time period will be the one that did more damage in that time period.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say. The highest average over a sample size of 1 will be the highest peak?

It looks like I am being too subtile, Snakevalentine's post illustrates that very clearly. DPS and DPS ratings do not transfer directly to damage done in this game.

Too add to this, DPS does not = Damage Dealing class, DPS is something a damage dealer may do to deal damage. It is an option to do damage. It is a bad option for escort class ships.
