# 1 A bit of character setup
01-31-2010, 07:38 AM
Hey there all, didnt get to play much OB so Im still learning the game a bit. I had planned from day one to play as a Klingon, one of my favorite races from the show! I was curious if any of the veteran Klingon players out there could possibly walk me through a decent setup for a tactical officer, as per starting stats and what to focus on with Skillups. Id just like the best setup possible, and honestly would hate to nerf myself with poor choices. So until I get the game down a bit more, Id truley appreciate and all advice for a decent setup! Thank you much!

It is tough to give guidance because there are a number of way you can set up a tactical officer.

Here are a couple of links with some decent information.

The best recommendation I can make is to do some research and then ask more specific questions. Best of luck.

After reviewing the given links, which I appreciate! Technically I'd like a tac officer than is "unstoppable" in pvp, but also able to hold his own in pve. Perhaps a balanced mix of DPS and Def abilities, as I said Im a bit new to the game especially the skill trees. So any advice on which tree "branches" to focus on would be great. Thanks again!

Probably Tact/Cruiser or tact/Escort. The latter being the harder to play well.

I'll throw up a skill build for ya in a few.

No tactical officer will ever be unstoppable in pvp. Tactical officers hit hard, die fast. Engineering are survivable, science are manipulative.

Something to remember, the original profession selection really doesn't pidgen hole you into one set playstyle. In fact, I'd say this is one of the few games where you could really argue that the original "class" selection has basically zero effect on your final playstyle. Engineers flying BoPs or Raptors are quite effective, tacticals in cruisers are as well.

In the end the tactical selection offers a little bit more dps through attack pattern alpha and a resist debuff later, and a few "toys" towards the endgame (honestly I'm still not even sure what the last few abilities are), but they aren't some make-or-break abilities in my mind. Engineers add the rotate shield frequency, which sure adds some defense but it's not massive by any means, along with some other engineering style "toys"

That being said though, you really can't underestimate how much survivability combat cloak adds to a BoP when flown correctly, so I would say Klingons, much more than federation, can skip out on some of the minimal added survivability from engineering to go for that little extra dps from tactical if you plan on flying that ship. If you want to fly the bigger ships then those other skills might add a little more to your overall ability.

That being said, how would you recommend setting up the character? As per starting class, and what to focus on in the skill tree? The skill tree is what is I need the most help with. as far as what to focus on, what to pick etc. Thanks for all the replies and great help!
