# 1 Looking for a Tulwar Build
11-26-2013, 01:55 PM
I just got my Scimitar 3-pack thanks to the sale, and my Romulan VA Science Officer is ready to try out her new ship.

Problem, I'm new to both Science as a build, and this kind of "half/half" ship in particular (my long-term Feddie Tac Officer tools around in ta Fleet Escort Retrofit).

What I'm looking for is some advice on a build, not just in terms of equipment but skills. Right now, my gear is a mix of Mk Xi/XII Nanite Disruptor gear and some Exchange blues. I'm completely willing to redo all my BOFF skills and character build to learn how to play this properly.

Wow, not even a nibble. If the Tulwar is a bad idea for a Sci Build, can someone recommend a good ship to me then? Because the Mirror sci vessel i got just isn't doing it for me.

Probably because only a few people on the forums actively play Romulan sci, and the lack of viable sci ships for Romulans in general - you have the R'mor, the Recluse, and the Voth Palisade in that order imo, and they're all lockbox/lobi store ships. The problem with the Tulwar is the poor seating/console combination, if you want to do damage with the tac commander seat 5 sci consoles slots is kind of wasteful unless you fill them with universals, and if you want to take advantage of the 5 sci console slots there's no sci commander seat to do it with.

I see two options:
1) if you really need to put the scimitar 3 pack to use, just go all in with damage and fly either the scimitar or falchion and use one of the many damage builds available for those

2) if you insist on doing sci your best bet unfortunately is to invest in a lock box ship and go for gravity well 3 + embassy particle generators

Actually I'm rather new to Science, and i rolled this character when LoR first launched, so I didn't know how crappy the ship seleciton would be. I'm very experienced playing a Tactical Fed Captain, and would be willing to go for a DPS heavy build with a side of Sci support, if that's what works best.

Right now, I'm running with an Energy Drain build a friend of mine helped me set up, but I think I picked poorly in both ship and weapon loadout, and am about to switch to a straight beam-boat setup, possibly in a Falchion now, thanks to your suggestion.

Yeah I started as a sci captain doing dps with a side of sci support and found I hated it. The lt commander sci station didn't offer anything to justify giving up lt com tactical to do it - he3, tss3, and especially tachyon beam 3 weren't noticeably better than the lt versions and gravity well 1 wasn't doing much of anything unless I invested significantly in aux power which gimped my damage output (and still weak compared to gw3). Your mileage may vary especially as I don't have any straight tactical experience, but I've had much better success after I decided to do separate dps and sci ships.

I switched to a Scimitar, went for a Beam-Boat build, and suddenly my survivability and DPS have both soared. Of course, I'm not really a Sci Officer anymore, but until PWE fixes the Science Vessel situation for Romulans, I guess it will do.
