share your thougts on what you mix n match to get the most out of it
I am thinking about picking up a Cruiser for my Engineer. It will give him a little more on the defensive side with his skills and the 2 tactical bridge officers will give it enough DPS to get the job done.
Got me. Seeing as there is not much in the way of 'pure' builds to make anything hybrid in the first place. Unless your talking about mixing up ground skills/traits and space skills/traits.
Because as much as people like to say the whole Class/Ship should be Eng/Cruiser Sci/Sci Tac/Escort. It really is not set in stone.
Could be talking about skill point builds which with the cap on skill points means you will need to start to focus a bit more and more as your Rank up after LT Cmd. Ground vs Space or One ship vs multi ship builds.
Personally ive been poking at the online character builder tool and you still have a pretty good number of points until you hit admiral at which your get stuck with be able to max 1 skill and then have like 7 ranks left to put in something else. Which right now means I buy one of the skills that lets me train a BO and the rest go into the ship class skill.
You can play any type of officer in any type of ship, but that officer should focus strongly on whatever makes sense. I don't think this is going to vary from character to character a whole lot, but we'll see in time.
I personally am a tactical officer using cruisers. I like high survivability, so I take mostly hull and shield regen/resistance buff type abilities. The improved offense from the tac space skills is roughly equivalent in usage to the engineering space abilities, provided you use them proactively. I'm not playing an engineer because on the ground I prefer to be more straightforward in dealing with things but most of my BO's are engineers using turrets (the other is a medical officer).
I am pretty sure Shadowqueen means hybrid as in "tac officer flying cruiser"
One that I had fun with in beta was an engineering officer in an escort. The extra defensive abilities helped keep it in the fight longer, and combined with the extra tactical stations and focus of the escort, still blew things up really fast.
Plus on the ground, nothing stops a charging Gorn like a maxed out chroniton mine barrier.
Realistically though, I think any combination of profession/ship should work. It's just a question of finding the flavor that you like the best.
Engineer in a cruiser/Science - No ground points
Tier 1- Max them to 9. There isn't much choice, so you can get what you want
Tier 2 - Get them to 7
Tier 3 - Max them at 9. They are worth it since the Diminishing returns isn't as low. It's not too many skills anyway.
Tier 4 - Max them, then spend the rest maxing what you left in tier 2.
Tier 5 - Pick your two ship types you want. I chose Star Cruiser and Deep Space Science Vessel. Those might change as I have no experience with either.
I don't know, this might be worth something. You get your engineer skills, you get your science skills, You get decent weapons, plus the ability to choose either/or.
