Lots of good info here.

Some other skills/powers to consider.
Science teams (Science BOff) - bolster shields on yourself or a teammate and reduce damage to shields.
Engineering team (Engineering BOff) - repair hull on yourself or a teammate and provide resist buffs similar to Polarize Hull's resist buffs.
Hazard emitters (Science BOff) - repair hull, remove DoT (such as plasma weapons apply in T2 or from the Engineering BOff's venting warp plasma power) and apply a resist boost similar to Polarize Hull and Engineering Team
Tractor beams (Science BOff) - prevents cloaking and turning while significantly slowing movement speed. If an Escort class (Fed Escorts, Klingon Raptors & BoPs) is using cannons, this can seriously limit their ability to shoot you or a team mate for a short time if applied at the right time.

On paper yes.. but in the arena, no. I have only seen a few random times when one fired an accidental torpedo on a teammate and still had little trouble ganking their targets.

everyone has killed an ally at least once, its something you really need to experience (and then you never forget it and never fall for it again). I should have clarified that I didn't mean every single time, just as a traumatizing experience of fratricide

Oh, one thing about the Klingon Cloak.

You have 3 to 5 seconds to hit them with torpedos. Once they fully cloak your incoming weapons do no damage

# 15 No use against cheats

In my research, i've found that there are cheats in sto, sold by this one guy. everything is useless against them, makes pvp not fun in the slightest now that the number of cheaters is increasing, if a dev is listening to this, please enter pvp and mail me i you can go 5 matches without getting your exploration cruiser refit with mk xii gear and superior bo abilities ripped apart in 5-10 sec by any ship.

You are right, it shouldn't happen. But it does because some people and teams are significantly better than others. I'd like to be able to say that I only die in embarrassing ways because my opponents always cheat, fortunately that's not the case. Sometimes you lose, and in humbling ways, because you* just aren't as good as you think you are.

*"You" is used in the general, not just specifically referring to you alone.

The OP's tips are great. I'm still pretty new to PvP (as a Fed LtC) and have exclusively played in PUGs so far. Things go much better when there's some sort of team work. And I've seen how impressive Klingon's can be working together.

Just one quick thought about useful powers: it seems to me that it depend a lot on your playstyle and on the sort of ship/captain you have.

So far, I've only flown an escort as a tac captain. I've experimented with some shield healing abilities, but my shields tend not to last long enough to bother healing. My experience with polarize hull is so-so. I haven't seen a lot of energy damage resistance and haven't been hit by tractor beams enough to make it worthwhile, though I like the idea of having it available in case I do (though by that point, I'm thinking attack pattern omega might be better and save the science slot for something else). I have found hazard emitters useful--if I survive long enough and can duck out of the way behind some asteroids or something, I can get my hull back up enough to rejoin the fight. As far as engineering powers. I haven't been impressed with engineering team I. As an escort that needs a good alpha strike, I've found emergency power to weapons a lot more useful.

I'm grooming another toon to PvP in a cruiser, and in that case, I'm anticipating using a very different palette of powers, including science team, which I've found really useful in PvE so far.

Anyway, just my 2 cents.

LMAO- Its called focus fire and everybody dies to focus fire. Not saying that somebody nots cheating somewhere in STO, but I've never seen evidence of it in pvp. Ever and I play alot of pug pvp.
