# 1 Server Capacity Woes? Still?
01-31-2010, 12:33 PM
Would love to know their current server's maximum capacity...I mean really..on the 2nd the entire world will be able to log into this game and so far just us headstart folks are enough to boink it, crash it and overload it? Anyone else see something wrong with this picture?

Cryptic is hoping to compete with WoW that has what 12 million plus subscribers? Perhaps a little planning ahead could have avoided this bump and grind, especially when you consider Star Trek's popularity alone. It's mind boggling...

WoW's whole following came mostly from fans of 3 previous RTS games that were pretty successful, then from people who liked the game enough to tell their friends and now they have 12 million players.

STO is falling back on 44 years of Star Trek history, 5 TV Series and 10 movies. There are fans who have never played an MMO coming here for the first time, MMO players that don't know anything about Star Trek other than the latest movie..and then you have countless people like myself who fall into both categories which is basically a person who is a big fan of Star Trek as well as a MMO player for many years.

Do the math, this game done right could have buried WoW and taken top spot. If Atari/Cryptic bungles this they might as well hang their heads in disgrace and exit the whole MMO Gaming Industry altogether. So while some folks will stay simply because they love Star Trek and have no other place to go, others will become annoyed enough to leave..and their bad feelings about the game will subside and they'll move on to something else like maybe Bioware's upcoming Star Wars MMO or perhaps CCP's World Of Darkness. However, Atari/Cryptic will in the end hurt themselves the most because if they blow this then they're basically terminating their own livelihoods.

Telling people to leave if they're unhappy with things as they stand is funny now for many of you forum nazis, but when enough take that advice the game will sink like the Titanic did and then you're hooped as well.

We all know Atari's never made mistakes before, right?

Anyhow..see you in game whenever my queue counts down from 925 to 1...*yawns*
