I think that the crux of the issues which has led to the decision to implement the queue system, is the business model chosen by Cryptic.
Cryptic, like any other company or investor out there, has played it safe. They (smartly) didn't want to over-invest their capital by purchasing a large amount of infrastructure, only to have a mere fraction of it required when the game was launched. It's easier to add than to take away. They've elected to start small, and as tangible demand (server load) becomes evident, present those numbers and petition management for the additional capital to expand the existing system (add more servers to the cluster).
Bear in mind, I come to this conclusion based on the assumption that the queue has been implemented to throttle server load. If that's not the case, then I don't know what other reason they may have for artificially controlling the number of concurrent users.
Also, the issue may be as simple as the gross underestimation of server load on Cryptic's part.
Regardless, I believe that Cryptic will eventually expand their infrastructure and the queue system will be removed; or, at the least, the wait times will be drastically reduced.
It's unfortunate that we as gamers, and customers, have to 'suffer' as a result of this. Gamers aren't known for their patience. (If you disagree, you must be new to MMO forums). I wish the circumstances were different, but regrettably, all we can do is wait and hope things improve.
While I realize this will fall on deaf ears, I'm compelled to say that verbally attacking Cryptic for what they've done so far is unproductive at the very least. The best thing we can do to improve our situation as gamers, is to be patient, keep playing, and try to be as empathetic to their situation as possible.
Queue Is Obviously Only A Temporary Solution Until The Hardware Required For A N0-queue Login Is Purchased And Installed. It Would Be Foolish For Them To Insall New Hardware For The Mass Of Interested Players At Launch Only To Find Out Half Quits Within A Month.
They'll Take It One Step At A Time Imo.
Give It Time, There Won't Be Queues In The Future.
Right Now I'd Much Rather Wait 900 In Line Than Spam The Enter Key Until It Lets Me In.
Excellent name for your thread I think Lifetime Subbers, like myself, will just have to sit back and wait until Cryptic answers subscriber demand with sufficient server clusters before we can get some game time in
