I don't like that idea either (multiple ships). Starfellet officers, for example, aren't assigned to more than one ship at a time so it seems logical to me that if you want to change your ship, the old one will have to be either destroyed or decommissioned as happened with Kirk and Picard, as examples. The only 'realistic' circumstances in which someone would have more than one ship at a time would be if they were some kind of pirate or trader type character and even then, I doubt that the various empires would sell classes of ship such as Galaxy, Sovereign, D'Deridex or Vor'Cha to anyone who came asking
I'm aiming at being the first Warbird commander with decent haircut!
More news, sweet. I still would like to know what happens to your ship when you beam down, especially in a PvP zone where it could be attacked!
The same thing that happens in SWG I would imagine. I can't see the idea of arriving at a planet with 30 ships in orbit being as designed. So I'm guessing if you are not aboard your ship it is not shown in the game world.
RE: Multiple ships -- the way I read that, they said you can learn the skills needed to captain multiple types of ships. Not that you can actually have more than one ship at a given time. It's not really that specific, but I wouldn't go getting all worried about it, or get any specific expectations of having a garage of ships, either way.
