As long as you have a key you can activate it when ever you want. Im not activating mine till a few months down the road, I just dont fee like paying to wait in line for an unfinished game.

I think you have to enter your retail key by Feb 5th...I'm sure the FAQs tell you when, but you cannot go without entering your retail key for one month, if that's what you're talking about.

if you are talking about subscription...then yeah, you will have a month free with the retail key.
