Don't get me wrong, I don't think STO should rigidly follow the class structure of MMOs. But if OP gets what he wants, how do you rebalance the other ships? Do cruisers become unkillable behemoths? Do science ships special abilities cooldowns drop to two seconds?

In context his demands are unreasonable. And there may be lore reasons for them, but lore reasons are the bane of any popular license game. It's actually one of my biggest worries going into the game, that enough people will complain that their vision of what Star Trek is isn't being implemented properly, and they'll get their way - by breaking the game.

If you don't like to die in combat or don't enjoy playing a glass cannon, the most reasonable solution is to not play an escort, your personal aesthetics be damned.

What i want is something like the klingon have with the bird of pray. cloak plus nice shields nice armor and nice weapons.
That is kind of what i had in mind of the escort class not to be a tank but not to be a glass cannon.

The only thing that gets me is, they spent all that time writing a huge backstory for the game, all the lore and canon for after the events of Nemesis... then it breaks down to healer, tank, dps. I know, I know, its a game but a mixture of both lore and gameplay would be nice.
People who say the trinity stuff though don't get it. There is no trinity when any ship can do anything. Just cause your in an Escort, you can use Science Teams? Or a Sci Vessel cause have High Yield Quantum Torps? If your really having a hard time with the Escort, try USING your skills. Grab up Sci team to boost your shields up when needed. Or maybe even Jam Sensors. Grab Engineers to give you boosts of speed or shields for when you get in a rough situation. Use your environment, ever try to duck behind Asteroids?

Then roll a Klingon. It's that simple.

Your complaints have nothing to do with gameplay imbalance, they have everything to do with your expectations and aesthetic preferences.

The nice thing about ablative armor is once its gone its gone. So it could potentially be balanced to work just fine with escorts, giving them a little more initial survivability but no better sustained tanking capability than they currently have.

But then im not saying they currently need it, just that it would be a nice touch and i don't see it really unbalancing anything if they did it right.
You can get it as a consel

But it's not a glass cannon anyway, you just have to play it to it's strengths, I rip through groups of enemies before they get their **** together enough to target me, when they do between my own shield abilities and those of my Engineer BOFF it does'nt make a dent, if I get really hammered evasive manuevers and passive get me out of trouble to repair, then right back in high yield torp and mines a blazing.

The escort class is suppose to be heavy armor/ heavy weapons platform. The class is called escort because it is suppose to escort less armored and less armed ship classes.

As it stands now i cant last one Minuit in battle. I get hit with a torpedo my shields are down and get hit with phasers my armor is down 50% i spend the next 30 seconds trying to dodge and stay alive. This is not what the escort class is designed to do.

The escort class is suppose to have specially designed armor called Ablative armor. and this is what its suppose to do

Also Where is my cloaking device that comes on escorts.

For more information on the huge discrepancies here are 2 places that you can gather info on how the ship is suppose to be.

If Cryptic can not stay with the lore of star trek, then i cant play this game. I hope that a change is made soon. and i hope that star trek fans unite to help keep cryptic in there place.
Thank you for contacting the Star Fleet Ship Design and Engineering department's online help desk. We're sorry you are experiencing technical problems with our [escort class] design and look forward to the opportunity to assist you.

At this point, we have have had our skilled technicians carefully review your trouble ticket and they have determined it to be a problem with your PEBCAK unit.

We believe this issue can be resolved on the client side, by using the ship against standard spawns of equal, or lesser, level to the ship/crew or, by engaging large groups while in a fleet formation and using sound tactics.

Please advise us if this process does not result in a resolution.

You ticket has not been closed but will be held in a "response" status for three days.

Again, thank you for contacting Starfleet Starship Design and Engineering department.

Have a pleasant day!

It can turn on a dime though (well not as well as the Klingons can, but for a fed ship it can). That's defense right there.

Someone needs to practice more and outfit their ship and officers better. Nothing wrong with the design or it's interpretation of the ship class. You have heavy guns and heavy armor and you are a TINY little ship.

Why would we get a cloak? Guess you need to be a Star Trek fan to know that. Hell they even tell you in the TV show.
