# 1 Ship Scaling is Not Correct
01-31-2010, 09:49 PM
This is basically a non-issue for major core gameplay, but it may grate on some people's nerves (especially those fans of TOS). Ship scales are not correct.
  • Sabers are MUCH bigger than they should be.
  • Constitution class ships are smaller than they should be (even small than my Miranda... which is just mind boggling considering how you advertise Cruisers as being "the big ships" of the fleet.

Haven't seen the other ships in game yet. But if anyone knows of any other issues, we can report them here.
Side note: Nova ships having a compliment of 100 people? They must be crammed in there like sardines! Compliment should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 50-80. Not a big deal, but attention to detail is definite a big plus for us fans. (especially when it comes to our horses)

Yeah, IMO Everything Tier 2 and up, except escorts, needs to be doubled in size.

A Miranda being the same size as a constitution is not right, not right at all.

The Sabre class mode in gamel is just really messed up in general. All the proportions of the main body are wrong (it's not wide enough, or too long), the bridge is way too big the engines are attached too far back and they are on struts instead of being directly attached to the sides of the hull.

It sorta looks similar to the orginal model if you tilt your head, but only barely.

But yes, people have pointed out the issues with the scaling before. It becomes very obvious if you put a Galaxy and a Miranda next to one another.

Scaling is fine, it has been stated many times that the scales are very near what they should be. The problem is the perspective from which they are viewed as well as peoples misconceptions about size.

This is a miranda beside the sovereign from the same distance and angle.

As for the Miranda/Constitution issue, they are supposed to be close to the same size

they really can't do much since how big space is. When you spawn in your ship would take 1/6 of the room lol

the problem with scaling applies mostly to the smaller ship classes not so much with the large ones. And even startrek bods admit that the scaling for certain ships is totally out of whack. I mean the JJ abrahams enterprise is meant to be as big as a the original enterprise when they take into account scaling from the shuttle bay thought its as large as a galaxy class ship

If they do tweak they need to pick a constant and the only one they can consider are the window sizes on the meshes. Alter them and you alter the whole scaling but it may effect pvp if you have microscopic ships and humongous targets.

The constitution and miranda are very similar sized but the miranda actually has a slightly smaller saucer section than the con.

Ummm, yes it is. They are nearly the same size. Overall they are nearly the same other than the Connie being a bit longer.

I'm sorry, but you are totally and 100% wrong. This is coming from someone who owns almost all of the technical manuals official and not. The scaling is NOT right.

The constitution class is SMALLER... read that... SMALLER than a Miranda. That is just not how it is supposed to be. Shikes man, you have no idea what you're talking about, no offense.

Its not that they are the same size, it is that the Connie is SMALL-ER than the miranda. Do a top down view, and you'll see even the saucer section of the Connie is smaller than that of the Miranda, and this is INCLUDING the saucer extensions the miranda has. Its not right.
