You start with two normally, at level 6 you receive a third assuming that you will create a Klingon. If you have a lifetime subscription you get two slots as a bonus. I believe the yearly subscribers receive this bonus as well. It is believed that additional slots will be purchaseable from the c-store at some point.

So if I'm not a lifer, and I'm unlocked Klingon (which I don't want to play) I can do three Federation characters today. Cool.

Assuming that costs will be similar to Champions Online.. here's the cost breakdown of additional character slots:

Quote:
Additional Character Slots (1200 Cryptic Points per 4 additional slots)

New accounts come with eight (8) character slots. Players can purchase sets of four (4) additional character slots per account.
It should be noted that STO comes with TWO character slots (three when you get to Lt 6), not 8 slots like Champions Online. So new character slots for STO may come in 1 or 2 packs.. for about the same price as a champions 4-pack. But if we assume the worst, that 1 character slot will cost about 1200 cryptic points..

Quote:
..........USD.......CAD.......GBP*......EUR*......DKK*
500......6.25......6.88......3.75......5.44......32.81
1000.....12.50.....13.75.....7.50......10.88.....65.63
2000.....25.00.....27.50.....15.00.....21.75.....131.25
5000.....62.50.....68.75.....37.50.....54.38.....328.13
You can see that 1200 Cryptic Points costs about $15 USD.

Now it should also be mentioned.. that these additional character slots aren't really *NEEDED*. I mean yes, it's cool to keep your old characters.. but if you want to start over with a new character, you *CAN* delete characters and "get the slot back". So even with 3 slots, you aren't limited to playing the game only 3 times.

Three character slots would be nice just to have one of each specialty type to see what you like without deleting one.

In that case, I think we should have the same as CO. 8 slots total (for non-lifers). 2 additional for the lifers and additional ones you can purchase.

As mentioned in another thread: Some of us like to play multiple characters, some solo and some with family/friends. When teamed with family/friends, we like to level at the same pace. Also trying out different class/ship combinations is fun. I don't want to wait until I hit the cap with one character to try something different.

I've played LOTRO since launch and still haven't hit the level cap with any character; multiple characters/teams play a major role in this. Same is true for CoH; I have a lot of characters and have not seen the level cap yet.

In part, it's the wannabe writer in me. I enjoy creating different characters and storylines and being able to bounce between them as I wish. Right now, I would like a minimum of eight character slots.

Some players enjoy focusing on one character all the way through, others like to play a variety. I fall into the latter category; focusing on just one character means that there is a lot of the game (i.e., differing playstyles between classes, etc.) that I would never see.

Variety if good.
