Wondering what kind of shields are best to run on an Escort. Right now I am using Covariant because I figured the high base shield strength is best to protect my fragile hull. I frequently use cooldowns like Science Team and Emergency Power to Shields to make up for my lack of regen.

I wonder if I am going about things the wrong way and if I would be better off with maybe Regen shields, or Resilient shields to lessen the amount of bleedthrough damage I take.

What do the rest of you guys do?

I use resilient because low crew means slow hull repair

I use covariant, because I run with no shield power.

Shields stop regenerating at 25, correct?

If you lower your shield power to 25, and then skills such as Warp Core Training boost it up, does your regen kick back in?

yeah but only at something like 4% stated rate per point.

so with warpcore trainings +7 your looking at 28% stated regen, which for covariants is someting in the region of 20 shields every 6 seconds.

Tradition escort hit-and-run play style would favor covariant with lower regen acceptable as an offset to higher initial defense. Get in, score a kill, and get out if you become the focus of the enemy! It seems to work well for me. As long as I have counters prepared against snares my big problem has been the quick burst damage from multiple opponents rather than needing sustained regen. In practice, however, most people don't play their escorts that way. If you don't find yourself breaking off combat then go with high regen shields.

This has been an ongoing "Goldilocks" experience for me all through beta:

I went with the High Up Front shields (covariant, I think) with the slow recharge. Great until I took a beating, then I was screwed.

Then I went for Regen, figuring I would just stay as evasive as possible, but my first pass would always take hull damage.

Now I am running the 5% absorb. 5% bleedthrough shields (cant remember the name) and it's JUUUUUSSSTTT right. Enough shields up front to survive my devastating first pass, and regenerative enough to give me stamina in battle. Also, the 5% deal means my egg-shell hull is better protected.

I also switched from Tachyon Beam in beta, to Jam Sensors, which has mitigated a HUGE amount of my damage.
