I noticed this this weekend. Not even out of Headstart yet (at the time) and already it's begun. Pathetic.

It's a hard line response ... and in truth I appreciate it.

I'm not even a current subscriber, but having worked for Blizzard in the past as an Account specialist for World of ********, whose entire goal was to prevent such occurrences, I hope that you stay true to your current goal. Blizzard always turned a blind eye towards gold BUYING ... They punished the selling but if the buying wasn't completely obvious and public then nothing would be done to the buyer. In a profit model this makes sense ... why ban and destroy an account that can continue creating revenue?

I only hope that Cryptic and STO will keep true to their word ... that they will be as hard on the sellers as they are one the buyers. That for ever seller they find and ban they find a seller and ban them as well, despite the economic consequences.

This is the moment for Cyptic to stand out from the other MMO developers. This is the point and time where they say, "No" to the over whelming Chinese gold farmers. That, "No! We will not abide by your illegal and unethical activities!" That they will not stand by idly while foreign companies make a profit off of their hard earned programming. And for god's sake ... say no to giving them a reason to deny me a free account to a game that might just turn the tide of MMO gaming as we know it, as far as Chinese Farmers are concerned.

I'm really digging myself into a hole here, LOL. Oh well ... that what alcohol does to a person! Stay in school, kids!

As for the punish the buyer one, be VERY careful. It is too easy to exploit it to harm someone you don't like and frame them.

That is why other MMO companies, although they threaten to, never really took action against the buyers.
Actually, that turns out not to be the case. WoW, for instance, bans massive waves of people periodically, as the rollup of investigations into gold selling. They gather information about usage patterns of the buyers to make sure the accounts weren't hacked, and when they're sure, they ban tens of thousands of accounts at once. The forums always explode when this happens.

It's doable, you just have to err on the customer's side; if you're not sure, don't ban.

I know for me it doesnt matter if you make your kid brother lvl grind your money.. YOu spend 100 hours a week doing it.. Or you buy items right from the cryptic store. It has zero effect to my play...

What does effect my play is being pestered by credit farmers and having to compete for space with them... Im happy you are taking steps to stop this.. It worked in starwars galaxies.. and other games, perhaps selling credits cheaper than you can buy from dealers is the answere
I agree with this completely and was wondering if Cryptic ever thought about selling their own credits? A lot of us long time MMO players actually work for a living and wouldn't mind shelling out a few bucks more just to not have to grind the credits. Grinding has always been the one sore point for me in any game. i work 10 hours a day why come home to work on a game. i play the game to escape from reality for a short time and to basicaly use it as a big chat room with my real life friends. I know quite a few who would buy credits from Cryptic and by them selling it themselves it would greatly reduce the spammers and such as there would be no market for them anymore. And the Permanent banning for buyers as well is sellers is a good idea especially if there is a way to buy credits directly from cryptic.

All I have to say is "HA HA STUPID" for the first moron who has a lifetime subscription and gets caught buying energy. You know someone will.
If you think Blizzard is not serious about getting rid of Gold Seller you would be crazy.

Ok I sent in my reports. They seem to be sending me this crap by mail, which I usually check while at work, on the forums here. Can we get a Report function added to the forum mail? that way we can more easily report these people.

Trying hard not to curse, these people (gold sellers) drive me NUTS!
