# 1 Do captaining skills stack?
02-01-2010, 05:26 PM
I was reading through the skills, and I noticed that the Cruiser/Escort/Science captain skills for Lt.C say they apply for any cruiser/escort/science ships, but the later ones don't. Am I correct in assuming that that Cruiser Captain skill would stack with Assault Cruiser Captain, and that Heavy Cruiser Captain won't? A little clarity would be appreciated.

Yes, that's my understanding of it. There really doesn't seem to be any use for the T3 and T4 ship skills once you've outlevelled them... one of many issues with the skill system now that they slapped a cap on it without any tweaking.

T3 gives you the ability to train a skill when maxed out. eg my tactical captain maxing out T3 escorts lets me train tactical boffs in High Yield Torpedoes III.

T4 doesn't give any extra bonus, but the stat increase it gives to that particular ship is much higher than the lower levels.

Thinking about it, they've given us what we've asked for; the ability to continue using lower tier ships if we want to. If you want to keep using a Defiant, you can; just pump up its skill and it should still be pretty good. As they've said, the difference between T4 and T5 isn't as big as the difference between T1 and T2.

What about the hybrid t5 ships? example the Assault Cruiser. It seems to have some escort traits. Does an Escort captain get any boost while captaining it? I don't read it as being that way but would be nice.
