The "more servers" was a lie, Cryptic know about 60-75% will stop playing after 1 month. So why invest in new hardware?
I wouldn't say 60-75% will drop off, but I think there will be a decent percentage, but not even because of failings with what Star Trek is, exactly. I think many will come here looking for an escape from another MMO they're tired of and ST:O won't satisfy them. Again, not because of its own failings, but because it's reached a point where many MMO fans aren't really sure what they want, and nothing will fit quite right.
So I'd expect a lot of people at first, then a decent dropoff, then a slow and steady climb of subscriptions.
Good point.
Also take it as a given.
Cryptic never tell you bad news only good.
So you know the answer already.
They haven't set up any new servers yet.
Ofcourse they won't.
I am not blaming the hardworking devs and artists at Cryptic tho. I am 100% sure they want the game to succeed for the longrun and want everyone to enjoy it.
Unfortunately they have no say in this. As it's suits like Jack Elmert who are calling the shots.
And the suits know the game isn't finished, is full of glaring issues (skill system, unfinished Klingon content.. just to name a few) and that at least 70% (probably more) will drop the game within the first month.
Especially, after what they experienced with Champions Online (wich was more finished and fleshed out then STO) in wich people left in droves the first month too.
I am an IT system engineer myself. So I know all too well how expensive server hardware is.
They know it will make their customers happy by adding new hardware and relief the stress from the Shard and make it more stable.
But they also know, that it won't stop people leaving in droves within the first month, because the game is unfinished and bugged. And that they cannot fix that within the first month.
So why bother buying extra hardware, if you know it will become obsolete a couple weeks later.
And that's the sad, frustrating truth most are not willing to hear!
Simply put, you're not entitled to it. It's nice to think a company would let you know everything that's happening all the time, but that's not how the world works. I've never met a company that's completely upfront about their problems, solutions, and business practices.

Fair enough.
And thats why Cryptic's reputatiion is going down the toilet.

That's why most every company's reputation goes down the toilet eventually. :p
But enough people will continue to buy their products that they get away with it.
Ok, since we don't have any facts about whether Cryptic has installed new servers ( and likely won't get any facts either) lets sit back and watch over the next 24 hours and let the customers give us the answer with their reactions.
Maybe because the extra hardware was a lie? Just like it was with Champions Online half a year ago?
The only thing Cryptic is interested in, is your money. That everyone buys their retail box and/or lifetime sub like a loyal little puppy. And no questions asked!
They don't give a damn, that you can't play the game half the time, because the shard is coming down due to overload.
I thought, that after CO, after STO Open Beta and now Headstart...and all the "UNEXPECTED"and "EMERGENCY" copy pasta and queue experimentations without single explanation... that people would have figured that out by now.

Can we please cool it with the hyperbole? The servers have been up for much more than "half the time" and as far as MMO launches go, barring the most catastrophic meltdown in MMO history, this is going to remain one of the better launches of this sort of product.

Hi the initial question was: have cryptic purchased new servers and installed them.
Thats all.
Especially before the eventual catastrophic crash thats going to occur if our head start experience thus far is any indication of whats in store.
I mean literally all it takes is some communication but the "Federation News Network" is anything but news and all promotional schilling with occasional downtime notices and half the down times that occurred this weekend weren't even addressed.
Theres been two patches over the head start period...wheres the patch notes? Whats been changed? Nobody appears to be assigned to keeping this information current and in front of the player base.
And its not like they've pulled every community manager and public relations staffer into the dev process so no one has the time to document this information...they have people they are paying to document this information and the people that are being paid aren't communicating the information we need.
So I can only assume that either StormShade and Rehkan are either censured, or simply aren't being given the go ahead to communicate anything.
All we have is the following from Zinc

We had some issues this weekend that brought the servers down a couple times. This was due, in large part, to lots of people claiming items from the C-Store and an unrelated bug on the back-end. We've been working all weekend to sort these issues out and we should have some fixes rolled out later today.
We're continuing to work on server performance and stability, too. We're constantly squeezing more and more out of every little bit of processor power we have.
These fixes will go a long way in better preparing us for the inevitable rush tomorrow and this coming weekend. Thanks for bearing with us during this time.
I know this weekend was rough, but be sure that the team here at Cryptic is entirely focused on getting any issue we find resolved and fixed as soon as possible.
Thanks again for your patience.

Captain Obvious to Star Fleet Command, the highlighted red area means you're doing it wrong.
Sounds like it will be a rough launch. I was kind of expecting some of the usual MMO launch day uglies which is why I didnt pre-order... I was thinking of at least waiting a few days before I commit to jumping in even though I had fun with OB I just dont want to deal with the launch day mess expessially if it's worse than the head start sounded.
Sad thing is the longer they wait to address issues and communicate with their customers and potential customers the worse it will be for them. A little appreciation to your customer base goes a long ways.
Being able to play an incomplete game is better than buying a box and not getting to play at all.
Look at mythic and WAR, no communication, things that were broken in beta are still broken took to long to fix the things they did fix and that game has 4 servers since launch about a year and a half ago?
I'm not a WOW player but because that game has such a massive player base...I think the days of sloppy realeases are coming to an end...If you want to servive more than a year or so that is. The market is not what it used to be.
