# 1 Penalty for ramming rocks
02-01-2010, 11:36 PM
I understand there's a lot of controversy behind death penalties but...

I just rammed into a gigantic freakin' asteroid that looked like it was a piece of a planet at full impulse and I just kind of lazily slid down the side and continued on my way.

There should be a penalty for sloppy flying. I've taken pride in my ability to narrowly miss space rocks and rammed this on purpose expecting to see a brilliant explosion or at least watch my shield instantly go to zero. What's up with this?

LOL, its fun flying in a fast Escort ship and run straight into a huge rock and go "doink!", bounce off until you get it moving again.

But i do agree, be nice to have some subtle damage when you run into certain sized rocks.....My gripe though is sometimes you can target/be targetted through rocks and other times you cant despite the size of rocks.

Even if it's not something incredibly life threatening (or it could scale up depending on the size of the asteroid). A little ding or warning noise and some damage to shields would be enough.

Apparently my shields are strong enough to survive ramming the remains of a planet, but not strong enough to take on a few bird-of-prey? : /

but how else will you get all of the extras to fly across the bridge and hurt themselves?!

No penalty for ramming rocks? Too bad. In the good old says of SFC you could tractor your enemies and ram them into the rocks and watch them go BOOM!

Didnt you know? Wesley Crushers hiding in your Cargo hold with one of his Botched repulsor beams. Hes jury rigged it into the main deflector!! I really thought everyone knew this!

Seriously though. Its probably so when in large battles we don't all blow up if we hit a rock or other ship. I agree it should at least drain out shields a little or gets some sort of spoken collision warning and maybe even a grinding sound if the shields fail.

Suspect it will all be ironed out. Be patient. Contrary to what all the doomsayers say, Cryptic do listen. I have seen a few things added when we have all ranted.
