I've tried to figure this out myself and have done some searches in this forum and google. Couldn't find the answer I was looking for.
What is it that determines what ability/power you get as you lvl? I understand that my character will gain abilities as he/she lvls in grade and rank, but what is it that determines which ability/power I get? I made a Science officer and I know that kits determine which abilities/powers I can use during away missions.

^ Here's a list of most of the skills your captain gains from leveling. Any other skills you can use will be from kits on the ground or boffs in space.
