A bug that involved Romulan Liberated Borg captains and their skills once they chose an ally
It just seems like to me that the science class of ships are getting the short end of the stick in the games content and rewards.
When you do fleet enguagements the points only seem to figure in DPS; healing, buffing and debuffing dont seem to apply to your score. I did about 900 on the score chart i the beginning ship and now in the science ship the score for me has moved to only about 1200. While in my current sector of feel engaugement the escorts seem to bring in nearly 3x the score touching over 3000 sometimes, winning all the fancy loot and leavin me with white item i vendor for 500 energy credits.
Sure escorts are the DPS ships so they should do more damage, but 3x is crazy. It doesnt just impact the special fleet engaugements either. Take a the classic deep space encounters everyone farms. I warp into one and typicaly all the other ships in there are escorts. I fallow them around as they enguage the enemy but my DPS is so much lower then theirs I will never get a loot drop, which for me.. is half the fun of an MMO is to collect loot and stockpile your own inventory.
I cant compete with the escorts so I stray off on my own from them and take on targets by myself, I find im shooting a battlecruiser for nearly 2 minutes before I blow it up. While escort flys in and pops them in 20-30 seconds.
Anyone else feel like their science ship is the bottom of the totem pole?
Just point out that your science skills can debuff an enemy, and take his shields down faster.
Those DPS guys will scramble to get you on their team.
It's nice to be wanted.
No science vessels didn't get shafted. Here is the reality:
This is a game. As such, the 3 different classes of vessels need to be balanced against one another. So each class has something to complain about (their weaknesses by design) and to brag about (their strengths by design).
Escorts deal the damage. But they are glass cannons - fragile. They don't hold much room on them either.
Cruisers are the tanks. Huge storage, lots of weapon mounts, lots of crew, lots of hull, lots of power (energy to run the systems). But their maneuverability stinks.
Science Ships are the jack-of-all trades. They don't have any real weakness, but they don't have any real strength. They innately can target subsystems and get a bonus to aux power to run all their CC abilities.
Its just the nature of the beast. You'll find the cruiser captains complaining to high heaven about their turn rates, you'll find escort captains complaining they can't take anywhere near as much damage as everyone else, and you'll find the science ship captains complaining about their damage.
Its called game balance. Now go play and do what most do: Focus on building a strength around your game style.
I think fleet engaugements should reward 3 types of rewards to each of the classes. If your escort you should be competeing with everyone else flying escort in that fleet engaugement. Cruisers should be in their own catagory too along with science in theirs. That would give me a way better chance to place #1 in a fleet engaugement if my score was only against other science ships based on loot rewards.
I think this is the start of what needs to be done to fix the problem and I would be happy if you might consider sending this information to one of the Devs here on the forums unless they don't read private messages. The only other thing they need to consider to your proposal is how to get away from making it just a dps race between the 3 classes and to incorporate a way of including the things each ship does well. Like for cruiser having it based on amount of damage taken, science ships amount healed etc. and then let the escorts dps battle each other.

I don't really think you got the point of what the OP was saying because your post makes absolutely no sense in context with what he is saying. How the f*** does being a good tank or an awesome science officer help me win loot in a dps based mechanic?
All I remember from playing Wow is trying to find a healer or a tank for our group. There was no way I was going to roll a DPS in this game. I bet as a Science ship you will be able to get any group you want. It might take a long time to level but it's more challenging and everyone will want you on their team come end game. I can't wait to use the tachyon and tractor beam on a battleship while the rest of the team beats it to crap.
The main things I see we get shafted on is yes the DPS mechanics that are in state when it comes to some major events in the game such as fleet enguagements.
Back before I ranked over and got my science ship, I sat in the starbase 24 fight event and got 1st-3rd fairly often and got some nice green/blue items in the process.
Now I just feel there is no way to compete in these events for the class of ship, and there is no subsitute event that I know of that I could spend my time doing as a science ship pilot that would allow me to get nice green/blues like escort pilots do farming the crap out of fleet engaugements currently.
I can farm lower content rather well, but as im advancing in the game I want to get bigger and better loot.
Everyone likes to get drops, even science ship pilots
I am trying to get my foot in the door in a fleet, hopefully with some team play I will see the usefullness of my science ship increase.

You're absolutely right, and wrong at the same time. Yes, each ship has its strengths and weaknesses. But when the game applies rewards only on the bases of one of the strengths, then only the ships that have that strength have the benefits. Nobody is complaining that science ships don't do enough damage. We're complaining that the game only rewards those who do the most damage.
How the f*** does being a good tank or an awesome science officer help me win loot in a dps based mechanic?
This will (hopefully) change somewhere in the future. It has to...
I suppose the rewarding system is in the current state because Cryptic did not have enough time to tune it... just like the aggro system.

As a science vessel captain I concur. Nice idea there.
