The real problem with Feds vs Klingons, hiding in cloak vs waiting to be attacked, etc, is that we aren't playing the right games.

I think future PvP games might need to be something more like this:

* Feds are trying to accomplish something.
* Klingons are trying to stop them.

or vice versa.


The TF2 "payload" game type seems like something that would work well.

For example, Feds are trying to tow a starbase into position. Any Fed ship within 2km of the starbase automatically applies a tow beam to the starbase (this requires no action or ability, you just have to get close to it), causing it to move along its desired path.

If all Feds are towing, it will take 4 minutes to get it into position and win.

Feds have 20 minutes to get it in place. Klingons simply have to keep interrupting them enough that the Feds run out of time. If enough time goes by with nobody towing the Starbase, it will begin to drift back (if it's not in the proper orbit, it will start to fall away from the planet).


If Klingons stay cloaked, Feds win.

Absolutely.

All of these assume that the match doesn't start until everyone is in. Naturally.

Everyone spawns into the map, and at random - one player is the 'freighter' who comes in when the map is full. Kills don't count for anything, only damage to the freighter counts.

Freighter has to get to the exit to warp out, other side has to stop it.

Both sides spawn, and there's a neutral ship in the center that will follow the nearest ship. Goal is to get the neutral ship to your exit spot. Maximum of 3 respawns. Map ends when one side is killed or ship exits.

Center of map is a facility. Objective of map is to capture the object in the facility.

While in the facility, players can also capture 3 neutral points which will cause turrets outside the facility to fire on enemy players.

Players have to choose between fighting outside, and fighting inside the facility.

Team one is repairing/protecting a damaged battleship. Team 2 is trying to destroy it. Team elimination map. If the battleship is brought online, it attacks enemy team. If destroyed the match ends.

KDF are stealing dilithium from mines and must collect 50 units before the feds stop them. Ships carrying dilithium cargo have a stealth penalty for each load of dilithium.

a secret federation research vessel has somehow phased into solid rock. federation players must beam aboard and rescue as many scientists as possible, download the mainfraime and start the self destruct. kdf players must capture or prevent rescue of scientists, download the mainfraime and disable the self destruct.

limited respawn map.

just ideas off the top of my head, and certainly not all good ones.

When you start a pvp match, it should pick a scenario at random. The unexpected is fun.

Excellent idea...PVP matches should be designed in a more episode based fashion.

The opening screen of the pvp match should have a 'title' like a star trek episode. You are the man.

Episodic PvP. Not quite what I have in mind when thinking PvP, which to me is more like an RTS game where everyone plays a single unit. Still, it's loads better an idea than what we got now. An interesting idea even.
